Pet Expert Helps Wild Street Dogs Down In Mexico

Several volunteers and a celebrity dog trainer, Brad Pattinson, were down in Cancun, but not on vacation.

They were looking for feral dogs, wild dogs who live their entire lives on the streets.

They are helping these wild dogs as well as learning to be better trainers themselves.

"The whole part of it was dealing with feral dogs in natural settings.

We were watching things with our eyes at real speed with these fast, wild dogs so now with domesticated dogs, we can see things are slower compared to feral dogs and we can learn from that."

The group helped local animal rescue groups to spay and neuter the dogs so that the stray population would hopefully be decreased.

The group learned how dogs communicate and how to communicate with other dogs.

"There was one capture we were doing when we had one dog and he then communicated to his pack.

Within seconds, four dogs came towards us from out of the jungle. It was scary but we learned from it.

Each dog is a puzzle and it’s about finding out about each dog. A lot of it is understanding dog behavior. We don’t always understand how they communicate."

So now that they've gotten some serious hands on experience they can all go back to their respective lives and dog boutiques and train and teach how to train dogs more effectively.

Seems like everyone wins in this situation.

Stray Cat Reunited With Family Of Strays

As part of a Trap Neuter Release program, a stray cat was taken from his storm drain home and brought to a vet.

He was then neutered and brought back to his home. The whole point of trap neuter release is to stop stray cats from multiplying but also to keep them out of shelters and away from the gas chamber.

When this cat is released, one of his family member cats runs right up to him. So cute!

Check out the above video of a stray cat, reunited with his stray family.

Texas Legalizes Airborne Hog Hunting And "Noodling"

Two new laws in Texas are about to go into effect, legalizing the hunting of feral hogs from helicopters and "noodling."

Noodling is the practice of catching catfish with one's bare hands. It's also known as "Hillbilly Hand Fishing." LOLz.

Hunting feral hogs from a helicopter seems unfair to the hogs, though it does help thin the growing population of the large (and sometimes deadly) oinkers. Doesn't it?

Check out the above video to learn more.

Close Call For Cats In Utah

Feral Utah Cats

A recent bill which was passed in Utah's House of Representatives, but luckily shot down before the Senate, would have made it LEGAL to kill cats!

Yuck!

The bill was in response to the states feral cat problem and would have allowed anyone to kill an animal that they judged to be feral while being exempt from animal cruelty charges.

Cats aren't rats! This bill would have made it all too easy for trigger happy cat haters to take aim at family pets who are free to wander or escape their domestic confines.

Thank heavens for Best Friends Animal Society who fought the bill by voicing their objections, while educating people on their safe and effective TNR (trap, neuter, return) program.

With the help of Utah Senator Dennis Stowell, the Best Friends Animal Society had their proven TNR program passed as the officially sanctioned method of dealing with the feral feline population.

On top of the safe trapping methods, the bill increased "hold time" in shelters from three to five days, which gives animals more time to be adopted or for owners to locate their lost pets.

That was a close call that could have easily become reality had it not been for the tireless work of the animal activists at Best Friends, so on behalf of Teddy Hilton, THANK YOU!
