Despite previous reports that said that fish oil boosted weight loss, researchers are now saying that fish oil has nothing to do with losing weight.
A group of overweight adults were given omega-3 fatty acids, while another group was given placebos. The group who took the fish oil capsules didn't lose any more weight than those who were given the inactive pills.
Doctors do say, however, that fish oil does have many other health benefits and with its ability to help cut cholesterol, improve insulin sensitivity, and reduce blood pressure, it makes sense for many diet programs to suggest that fish oil should be consumed.
"Whereas one may not enhance weight loss by taking supplements with this level of omega-3 fatty acids, the protective cardiovascular effect should still be realized because of the sheer increase in blood concentrations of the fatty acids."
Makes sense to us! Whether or not you plan to lose weight, consuming omega-3 supplements along with a healthy diet and regular exercise can still provide many positive results when it comes to other health issues.
