Four Loko FTC

If your product is referred to as "blackout in a can," does that automatically mean your product is bad??

Well, the FTC is going to take a look into the complaints about Four Loko, which happens to have that nickname.

In 2010, some party goers didn't know when to stop drinking the stuff and ended up in the hospital — this sent people into a panic, which led to some states banning the drink, and Four Loko itself to ultimately remove the caffeine that was packed in with the booze.

But left the booze, of course.

Here's the issue:

Watch Out, Four Loko! Colt 45 Goes Fruity And Snoop Dogg Signs On To Promote

snoop dogg promotes colt 45 blast

Well, this is a step backwards!

Back in November, we were happy to hear that fruit-flavored, intensely-caffeinated energy drink/alcoholic beverage Four Loko had been de-caffeinated, and had become at least a little bit less dangerous.

Looks like Colt 45 is ready to pick up some of Four Loko's slack, because their new fruit-flavored drink Colt 45 Blast contains twice as much alcohol as the original version of Colt 45! (12% alcohol vs. 5.61%)

Is it just us, or was there MORE THAN ENOUGH alcohol in Colt 45 already???

Aside from the fruit flavor, this drink is going to be pret-ty appealing to the younger crowd due to Snoop Dogg's involvement as a promoter of the drink.

Not cool, Snoop. You KNOW this drink is going to become a problem with young folks!

Now taking bets: How long before we hear our first news story about a Colt 45 Blast-related incident…

Four Loko Recycled Into Ethanol

WTF?!

It seems that truckloads of Four Loko and other alcoholic energy drinks are being recycled into ethanol. Federal authorities felt that the products were dangerous and caused consumers to become "wide-awake drunk."

Wholesalers from the East Coast started sending cases of the high-alcohol, caffeinated malt beverages to MXI Environmental Services in Virginia after the Food and Drug Administration;s crackdown.

Brian Potter, vice president of operations at MXI's Virginia facility, said:

"We're equipped to process four truckloads a day, and we're at full capacity. There are about 30 different products involved, and we've only seen a couple of them at this point. It could go on for several months."

The company distills the alcohol from the drinks, then sells the fuel to be blended into gasoline.

"These are actually things that could go directly into a landfill or incinerator or some other waste process that's not as environmentally friendly, so I think it's a good thing," added Potter.

Four Loko to gasoline?! Yikes!!!

Michigan Bans Four Loko

Michigan Bans Four Loko

This drink is crazy!

The state of Michigan has officially banned the sale of Four Loko, the alcoholic energy drink that has the equivelant of five beers and three espresso shots, within state borders!

And Michigan isn’t the only state cracking down on the drink — Chicago City Council has also brought up banning on the drink, and the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Commission has told the state's licensed vendors to cease sales of it.

Four Loko was brought to national attention when it was blamed for the hospitalization of nine students in Washington.

Do U think Four Loko should be banned?
