dodgers-and-fox-sports-four-billino-deal.jpg

Last year, Fox sports struck a deal with the L.A. Dodgers that baseball's commissioner shot down.

It was a crazy 20-year, $3 billion deal that gave the Dodgers 30% of the Fox Sports channel.

Discussions have started again and a new deal has apparently been put on the table.

And it's a BIG one.

LAPD After Angry Internet Commenter Who Threatened Fox Sports!

Fox sports logo

Why are sports fans becoming increasingly more violent?

We were in complete dismay when we watched a few Philadelphia Flyer fans beat up two New York Rangers fans over a hockey argument after the Winter Classic earlier this month, but now there's this!

An angry commenter on a FoxSports.com team page has threatened the lives of employees after moderators banned him or her from the site for posting an "inappropriate comment".

The site then received an incredibly threatening message from the user through the "report abuse" tab, which went a little something like this:

Dodgers Accuse FOX Of Illegally Interfering With Sale Of Team

LA FOX Logos

The Los Angeles Dodgers are accusing Fox Sports of illegally attempting to interfere with the sale of the bankrupt team and all of its assets, including media rights.

The team filed the complaint in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware on Wednesday, alleging that Fox sent a "cease and desist" letter to the Dodgers' financial adviser who was soliciting bids for TV rights to Dodgers games.

Fox is firing back because they hold a contract to televise Dodgers games through 2013 and believe the deal gives the network exclusive negotiating rights through Nov. 30, 2012. In the cease and desist letter, an attorney for Fox wrote:

"Allowing others to bid or express interest in the media rights for the Dodgers is a clear breach of the letter and spirit of the exclusive negotiation term."

The Dodgers, who are hoping to find a buyer by April 30th of 2012, have filed a motion for the court to allow them to market media rights for 2014 and beyond, writing to the judge:

"[By] obtaining firm offers, LAD can demonstrate to buyers the substantial value of the post-2013 telecast rights…LAD has determined in the exercise of its business judgment that marketing the post-2013 telecast Rights at this time will further the interests of LAD, as well as its creditors."

A spokesman for Fox has called this move by the Dodgers "the latest chapter in the current owner's ongoing scheme to avoid honoring his contractual obligations."

FOX Nabs Rights To 2018, 2022 World Cup Telecast

world cup

FOX Sports has beat out ESPN for the rights to televise the 2018 and 2022 FIFA soccer World Cup!

Despite losing the rights to broadcast all English-language FIFA events from 2015 through 2022, including the rights to the women's World Cup in 2015 and 2019, the Disney-owned sports network is still committed to soccer, saying:

"ESPN remains committed to presenting the sport of soccer at the highest level across our platforms with coverage of the UEFA European Football Championship, English Premier League, La Liga, MLS and other top leagues and tournaments, including the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.”

ESPN shouldn't feel to bad for losing the bidding war though. The network can still look forward to insane ratings and money from the 2014 World Cup!

If FOX Sports is anything like their "fair and balanced" counterpart, FOX News, we're sure they will find a way to make sure America looks like a winner in 2018 — regardless of the final score.
