10 tips new years artificial sweeteners ditch

Everyone makes a New Year's resolution to be healthier, but precious few actually follow through on it!

But what if there were simple ways you could improve your health?

Dietician Julieanna Hever says there are, and she has ten amazing tips for staying healthy in 2013!

Here's one!

Eliminate all artificial sweeteners.

This includes stevia, sugar alcohols, and the stuff in brightly colored packets at restaurants. They are designed to be hundreds- to thousands of times sweeter than sucrose (table sugar). Replacing sugar with these products increases sweet cravings, confuses your hormones, and most likely helps you keep on or even gain weight. Opt for whole food sweeteners like 100% pure maple syrup, date syrup, date paste, and fruit purees. In three weeks or less, your cravings will subside, your taste buds will recover, and you will notice you are now sensitive to the sweetness of natural foods.

Check back with us every day for the rest of the year for more of the 10 Great Health Tips for 2013! Special thanks to Julieanna Hever!

If you are at risk for colon cancer, you can lower your risk of getting this disease by avoiding certain foods!

Scientists evaluated 486 people with Lynch syndrome, which is a genetic disorder that predisposes people to cancer. It leaves 70% of them with the colon variety. In the evaluations, they were asked about their diets and classified into one of four groups according to what they ate: high in fruits, vegetables and whole grains; high in meat and coffee; high in a Mediterranean-type diet that included fish, leafy greens, pasta, sauces and wine; and high in fried snacks, fast food and diet soda.

Can you guess with group had the longest risk?

Quickfit Tip Of The Day

Breakfast is arguably the most important meal of the day. Skipping it down regulates your metabolism and can cause over eating later in the day. Stick with something high in protein and fiber. An example would be oatmeal, fruit and turkey bacon or eggs.

Quickfit Tip Of The Day

Pink

Ripen bananas, peaches, pears and avocados by placing them in a loosely closed brown paper bag. The trapped ethylene emitted from the fruit breaks down its own cell walls and as a result expedites the ripening process.
