When it comes to building houses for those in need, no one does it like former President Jimmy Carter!

So of course when Garth Brooks wanted to help others he decided to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity!

He joined the hundreds of volunteers who have built over 100 homes in the Port-au-Prince area, hardest hit by the big Haiti earthquake.

People just think that because it's out of the news, the problem is over, but many are still living without proper homes!

Garth Brooks made quite a generous donation to an Oklahoma hospital shortly after the death of his mother, who died in 1999. He earmarked $500K to go to the IntegrisCanadian Valley Regional Hospital's women's health center, hoping to help other people's mothers, sisters, aunts, etc. who are also suffering from cancer.

Good man! It's so important to give back!

According to reports, Garth Brooks did a major solid for the city of Nashville by performing a string of concerts in the area. Sources are reporting that fans came in droves to the city for the gigs and spent a rather sizable fortune on local albums.

So, just how much did the shows raise?

An astounding $10 million!

That's on top of the pre-Christmas $3 million dollars raised for the local flood victims through the gigs!

Wowza! That's a present Nashville surely needed.

iTunes Holdouts!

kid-rock-acdc-and-garth-brooks-refuse-to-put-music-on-itunes

Now that The Beatles' music is now available to download on iTunes, there aren't too many acts left that haven't agreed to put their tunes out onto the digital marketplace!

But three have stood firm in their refusal, and apparently, here's why:

AC/DC

Frontman Brian Johnson explains:

"Maybe I’m just being old-fashioned, but this iTunes, God bless ‘em, it’s going to kill music if they’re not careful … It’s a…monster, this thing. It just worries me. And I’m sure they’re just doing it all in the interest of making as much…cash as possible. Let’s put it this way, it’s certainly not for the…love, let’s get that out of the way, right away."

Garth Brooks

He says:

"These [Apple] guys are sweet guys, but they’re businessmen, so they understand. … They truly think that they’re saving music. My hat’s off to them. I looked at them right across the table with all the love in the world and told them they were killing it. And until we get variable pricing, until we get album-only [downloads], then they are not a true retailer for my stuff, and you won’t see my stuff on there—with all the love in the world. That’s nothing that they haven’t heard, either."

Kid Rock

He says:

"I just don’t like being told what to do. I don’t have a beef with Apple, or iTunes, or any of them. I do have a beef with that it seems kind of socialist of them to charge the same price for every song. What if every car cost $4,000, you know what I mean? A song from my neighbor’s garage band is not the same value as Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Born to Run.’ I just want to decide how my product gets sold with the people who sell it."

Wow - we have to admit, although we don't agree, these guys make much better points than we expected them to!

Other artists currently unavailable for download include The Smiths, Tool, Def Leppard, Bob Seger, Black Sabbath, and Frank Zappa.

And it's their right as musicians to decide how their music is sold, so more power to them!

What do U think?? Do U agree with anything any of these guys have said??

Garth Wants To Help

garth brooks will perform in nahsville

The devestation caused by the floods from back in May in Nashville is still being dealt with.

Of course many people helped by holding benefit concerts and sending clothes to help those affected by the floods, however it takes many months to get everything back to the way it was.

People are still struggling, and Garth Brooks has decided to step in.

He has decided to, for the first time in over 12 years, go back to Nashville and perform a benefit concert on December 13, for The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee in support of all those affected by flooding.

Garth made this announcement this morning on Capitol Hill. He was thanked by many state officials. Senator Lamar Alexander graciously said:

"I thank Garth for bringing Tennesseans together through his music and I know the proceeds from the concert, which he is generously contributing to the cleanup, will be put to good use helping people put their lives back together."

Thank you for your generosity Garth!
