former snl writer joe bodolai commits suicide

Sad.

Yesterday, the body of 63-year-old former Saturday Night Live writer Joe Bodolai was found by a cleaning crew in a Los Angeles hotel room.

Sources say that Joe had been staying at the hotel for over a week, and a bottle of antifreeze & Gatorade were found in his room.

After reading his apparent suicide note, which he left on his blog, it seems that Joe suffered from alcoholism, which destroyed his life. Tragic.

Our thoughts go out to Joe's family, friends, and loved ones during this very difficult time.

He will be missed.

Tiger Woods Loses Tag Heuer Sponsorship

Tiger Woods tag Heuer

Tiger Woods picked up a new sponsorship from a Japanese heat rub not too long ago, which made it appear as if companies were beginning to look past his infidelity scandal. However, looks can be deceiving.

The golfer has been DROPPED by Swiss watch maker Tag Heuer, which may have been his most valuable sponsorship worth an estimated $10 million.

After being dropped by other companies including AT&T, Accenture, Gillette, and Gatorade, Woods is now at about a $25 million sponsorship loss.

He's still in pret-ty good shape though considering he is estimated to be worth about half a billion dollars!

Beetroot Juice Helps Cyclists Clock In Faster Times

Beetroot juice

Move over Gatorade!

A study in the journal Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise has found that drinking beetroot juice helps competitive-level athletes, specifically cyclists, boost performance levels!

After studying nine competitive male cyclists competing in two time trials, researchers found those who drank half a liter of beetroot juice were an average of 11 seconds quicker over four kilometers and 45 seconds faster over 16.1 kilometers.

The key ingredient seems to be nitrate. In one trial the cyclists were given normal beetroot juice, while in another the cyclists unknowingly drank beetroot juice without any nitrate.

As a result, researchers found that those drinking normal beetroot juice had higher power output for the same level of effort than they did after drinking the modified juice.

Since the substance is completely natural and completely legal there is speculation that this may become the next essential dietary supplement to take athletic training to the next level.

It seems like it would most certainly be helping any cyclist participating in the Tour de France right now!

Tiger Woods Gets A New Endorsement Deal!

Tiger Woods heat rub

Tiger Woods, who was dropped by AT&T, Accenture and Gatorade after his infidelity fiasco, is getting some endorsements back!

In Japan at least.

The pro golfer has become the face of Japanese heat rub used to relieve muscle pain. The company behind the rub, Kowa, has said:

"Kowa Company Ltd. is pleased to announce the use of Tiger Woods as the image character of Antiphlogistic Analgetic Vantelin Kowa series"

No word on what he'll be doing in commercials for the product, but they will begin to air in mid-July in Japan.

Not that he NEEDS anymore money, it looks like Tiger may be back on the upswing after his disastrous year in in 2010.

Pediatricians Recommend Keeping Kids Away From Energy Drinks

Kids already have ENOUGH energy, why would they need an energy drink?!

The American Academy of Pediatrics has written in the June issue of Pediatrics that kids SHOULD NOT be sucking down energy drinks.

Obvious reasons include too much caffeine (more than 100 milligrams per drink sometimes), which is not only addictive, but can increase heart rate, blood pressure, speech, anxiety levels and lead to insomnia.

Dr. Cynthia Pegler, an adolescent medical specialist in New York City, said:

"Too much caffeine is not good for anybody and can lead to sleep problems, and if a child is also on a stimulant medicine to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, you are now getting an extra whammy. This is not a good combination."

Makes sense to us! She recommends getting your kid hooked on water at an early age instead of relying on sugary sports drinks like Gatorade too, explaining:

"For most kids who do sports, water was the drink to encourage instead of all these other sugary drinks."

Beyond energy drinks, the Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend sports drinks either. Although they are not overloaded with caffeine, they contain unnecessary sugars, which lead to obesity and cavities. The report explained:

"Most sports drinks have calories and sugar which can lead to weight gain and dental erosion. They have a limited use for specific kids and teen athletes involved in prolonged vigorous sports or other activities."

We don't recall needing an energy drink to get us through the day as kids, so we don't see why any kids would need them now.

Are your kids too tired to get through the school day? Doctors suggest that consuming energy drinks is merely "a band-aid for an underlying problem that needs evaluation."

Totally agree! We'll leave parenting up to parents, but the danger of children unnecessarily consuming energy drinks is definitely something EVERY person raising a child should be aware of.
