Bless everyone's dear heart that signed this letter. Truly, we hope it makes a difference.
Some of Hollywood's biggest stars have attached their namesakes to a letter being sent off to President Obama, urging him to take a bigger stance for marriage equality in America. His administration's denouncement of the Defense of Marriage act was a great first step, but there is still so much more to be done.
Among the A-Listers who signed the letter going off to the White House are Anne Hathaway, Martin Sheen, Jane Lynch and Ellen DeGeneres. In one particularly moving paragraph, the letter reads:
"Whether to end discrimination in marriage is a question America has faced before, and faces again today… It is a question that calls for clarity from the president. We ask you to complete your journey and join us, and the majority of Americans, who support the freedom to marry."
We second these remarks whole-heartedly and hope the President seriously gives them some thought…especially considering that he will soon be up for re-election in 2012.
Don't neglect the ones who helped you get to where you are now in the first place, Mr. President. Don't forget how Hollywood rallied around you and how the gay community believed in the promises you made.
Remember - Yes you can!
So then, do it!
