Could General Hospital Live On…In Primetime???

general hospital may live on

Ya hear that, GH fans? There isn't LOTS of hope…but there's still some!

Last week, ABC's president announced that the network hadn't made a decision yet about whether or not they'll be cancelling General Hospital.

Now, ABC's entertainment chief Paul Lee has confirmed that the network is considering the possibility of airing GH "as an evening summer series."

Intriguing idea! We have a feeling there are TONS of fans out there who would give anything for their favorite soap to live on!

What do U think? Should they continue GH as a primetime show???

Soap Opera Fans Vs. ABC Affiliates

soap fans try to save shows

Hardcore soap opera fans are NOT happy about ABC's decision to cancel their favorite shows.

Last week, fans of All My Children and One Life to Live started A RIOT outside of The Lincoln Center in NYC, as a way of protesting the network's new daytime line-up.

They even handed out brochures referring to the replacement shows as "glorified infomercials appropriate for late-night basic cable channels, not for a major broadcast network." Ouch!

Now, Twitter-based group Soap Fans United are encouraging fans to reach out to ABC affiliates and complain about the new line-up.

The group has been very proactive in their efforts, including writing a letter to ABC president of daytime Brian Frons, in which they accused him of "taking apart a decades old tradition that can be updated and monetized and has built in brand recognition and viewer loyalty."

Here's more from the group's letter to Frons:

"Disney is supposed to be about synergy. Where is the Disney synergy with ABC daytime? Why put on two unproven shows and take a risk with Oprah Winfrey & Regis Philbin departing your station? Many of you are putting in an extra hour of news in place of 'Oprah' but without a solid daytime lead in, the ratings are going to free fall with a domino effect from your newscasts to early prime to primetime to late local news and even late-night."

Commendable effort by Soap Fans United, but unfortunately it looks like the end of All My Children and One Life to Live is inevitable.

ABC better not touch General Hospital though! We already know these fans are willing to riot for their shows…who knows WHAT they'll do if they lose EVERY soap opera!

Daytime Drama! Could Katie Couric Bring About The End Of General Hospital?!?!

katie couric could bring about end of general hospital

Please don't do it, Katie! This move could mark the end of soap operas as we know it!

Back in April, we were sad to hear that All My Children will be gone forever in September, and One Life to Live will say goodbye in January.

Now, we've learned that Katie Couric MAY be signing a $20 million deal with ABC for a one-hour daytime talk show that would air in General Hospital's timeslot! Nooooooo!!!!!!!

If the deal goes through, Katie's show would start up in September. No word as to whether or not GH would be canceled or put into another time slot, but unfortunately we're NOT optimistic for the show if that happens.

Look, Katie…we understand you're looking for new opportunities now that you've parted ways with CBS Evening News, but soap operas are an extremely endangered species.

Think about it. If you spare GH, you could be a HERO to lots and lots of devoted fans! Enrique Iglesias will sing songs about you! LOLz.

Would U like to see a Katie Couric daytime talk show on ABC? Or would U prefer the continued existence of General Hospital?

Poor Kathleen Turner! Broadway Play High To Close After Eight Performances!

kathleen turners play to close early

What a shame! The woman's capable of SO MUCH!

This Sunday, Kathleen Turner's Broadway play High will close, after only eight performances and five days running!

Unfortunately, the show's reviews were largely negative, which dissuaded producers from riding things out for a while.

Ticket prices were going for an average of $18, and even with such LOW prices, seats still weren't filling up!

Kathleen was fantastic in Californication two seasons ago…maybe she should take a break from theatre and do her TV thing for a bit.

Perhaps she could go the James Franco route and do her daytime thing on General Hospital? Or perhaps she could surprise us all with some singing on Glee?? OR maybe Tina Fey can add her as another 30 Rock guest star after Condoleezza Rice???

Just some thoughts! We'd love to see Kathleen Turner make her triumphant return in one way or another…

Did U see Kathleen's play High? Do U think she should return to TV? Or should she keep doing her theatre thing?

Kelly Ripa on All My Children Cancellation

Filed under: TV NewsKelly RipaSad Sad

kelly ripa not happy about all my children cancellation

You are NOT alone, Kelly!

Former All My Children alum Kelly Ripa is not happy about the show's cancellation.

Here's what she said when she first heard about ABC's plans to cancel the show:

"All My Children means so much more to me than any place, because [Mark and I] met there, we had our children there, it was a big part of our lives, and I think that to cancel a show that has been on television for so many years, what are you going to replace it with? I mean I just don’t know. I just feel like it’s such a training ground for so many actors."

Sorry to hear it, Kelly. The show clearly means a lot to you.

For now, it might be time to treat yourself to a pint of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ben & Jerry's and tune in for some General Hospital.

How will U fill the void now that All My Children is gone? Ice Cream? GH? Some other way???

Officially Cancelled! R.I.P. All My Children AND One Life To Live

Filed under: TV NewsR.I.P.Sad SadBusiness Blitz

abc soaps canceled

At least we've still got General Hospital

Back in February, we learned that ABC's soap operas were in danger of getting canceled.

It would appear that the danger was VERY real, because ABC announced today that it will be giving the axe to both All My Children and One Life to Live.

All My Children will end in September after 41 years on the air, and One Life to Live will end in January after a 43-year run!

The soaps will be replaced by food-themed show The Chew, and health/lifestyle show The Revolution.

Here's what ABC president Brian Frons had to say about the network's decision to cancel these landmark shows:

“While we are excited about our new shows and the shift in our business, I can’t help but recognize how bittersweet the change is. We are taking this bold step to expand our business because viewers are looking for different types of programming these days. They are telling us there is room for informative, authentic and fun shows that are relatable, offer a wide variety of opinions and focus on ‘real life’ takeaways."

More from Frons about the two axed soap operas:

"They are iconic pieces of television that have made an indelible mark on our culture’s history."

We're sad to hear about the ending of these shows, but we're glad to hear that GH won't be going anywhere. We need at least ONE soap opera in our lives!

How do U feel about the end of All My Children? One Life to Live?

Arnold Returns To Action Flicks!

arnold schwarzenegger returns to action flicks

He's not JUST a Governator!

Last month, we heard that Arnold Schwarzenegger had been offered a slew of movie roles, including parts in reboots for some of his classic action flicks such as Predator.

While we haven't gotten confirmation about him working on any reboots as of yet, we've learned that he's got some new projects on the horizon, including The Last Stand, an action flick being directed by Korean director Kim Jee-Woon.

In Jee-Woon's film, Arnold will star as "a small-town sheriff who must recapture a drug cartel leader before he crosses the border to freedom in Mexico." Sounds intense!

Arnie is also currently in talks to star in Training Day director Antoine Fuqua's film The Tomb, in which he'd play "a security expert who is framed for a crime he didn't commit, then locked up in a prison he designed." Again…sounds very intense!

Other projects on Arnold's plate include WWII drama With Wings as Eagles, and Cry Macho, a father-son drama about "a horse trainer who must bring his estranged son back from Mexico."

Glad to hear you're keeping busy, Arnold! We're still waiting for Jingle All the Way 2 though! Ha!

…Or maybe you can go the James Franco route and guest star on General Hospital!

What would U like to see Arnold do next? A new action flick? A reboot? Jingle All The Way 2? A guest role on GH? All of the above?
