You know the problem with Charles Dickens' work? Too long and not enough jokes!
At least, that seems to be the theory behind modern re-imagining of Great Expectations!
Exec producer Reese Witherspoon, along with CBS TV Studios, Television 360, and Pacific Standard sold the project to the CW!
Based loosely on the classic book, Expectations will follow a young country girl who dreams of becoming a success in the city and is helped out by an anonymous benefactor.
Something tells us this version will be a bit happier than the original, since it's going to be a sitcom!
Hmm. Is anyone else getting the sense that this might seem vaguely similar to Sweet Home Alabama? Take out the benefactor element and add Patrick Dempsey and its basically the same story!

Rowling's American publisher Michael Pietsch think the "blackly comic" novel is bound for greatness.

There aren't enough words in the dictionary that could describe how amazing Nina Dobrev looked at the Met Gala.
The Vampire Diaries star appeared as if she was dripping in gold and black in a Donna Karan Atelier gown inspired by the designer's dress worn by Gwyneth Paltrow in the film Great Expectations.
Man, when Nina brings it she really brings it!
Such a stunner!

Classic literature never looked so good!
Mike Newell is taking a stab at re-envisioning the Charles Dickinson classic tale Great Expectations and so far, we like what we see! This first look at Helena Bonham Carter as Miss Havisham, the iconic spinster who hasn't taken off her wedding dress since she was left at the alter, has just the right amount of spookiness and sadness to it.
Wait till Voldemort Ralph Fiennes gets a load of her!

Ladies, we don't think you'll have any trouble getting your hands on Oprah Winfrey's latest picks for the book club, but we'll be rather shocked if you haven't at least read one of them already.
According to sources, Oprah's choices for her next book club reads are two Charles Dickens classics, A Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectations. Because the stories are being stamped with Oprah's approval, a new single bound book is being released containing both stories for $20.
Course, if you strapped for cash or want to save a tree, you can download the electronic version. In fact, Amazon has Great Expectations for free for the Kindle!
It's been a long time since we've sat down with these two stories. Maybe it is time to revisit them.
Think U might jump on Oprah's bandwagon and read some of the classics?
