A 73-year-old woman was just shot and killed by police on Tuesday night during a training exercise aimed at showing how difficult it is for cops to know when to shoot.
Apparently, Mary Knowlton was participating in a "shoot/don't shoot" community event in Punta Gorda, Florida when she was randomly selected to pretend to be a bad guy facing off against police.
However, through some unlucky chain of events, the elderly librarian ended up getting shot multiple times with live ammo instead of the intended blank rounds.
Punta Gorda police Chief Tom Lewis issued a statement after Mary was "mistakenly struck with a live round," asking for prayers at this difficult time, saying:
