Furthermore, nothing has changed! Arthur Laurents is still on board! Stephen Sondheim is tickling the ivories to prepare as we speak! And most importantly…Streisand’s still in as Rose!!!

Everything's gonna be bright lights and lollipops!!! We're so thrilled!!!

Sorry Barbra! Gypsy Movie Called Off

barbra-streisand-gypsy-movie-scrapped.jpg

NOOOO!!

The film adaptation of the Broadway musical Gypsy has been scrapped.

The film was to star Barbra Streisand in the role of Mama Rose.

Director Arthur Laurents was convinced that Barbra would be great, however, co-creator Stephen Sondheim had decided against the project.

Sad face.

Laurents said:

"'He said 'What is the point of it? You want a record because the theater is ephemeral. You don't need a record. The fact that it's ephemeral means you can have different productions, different Roses on to infinity.'

So I don't want it now. I don't want a definitive record, I want it to stay alive."

He added:

"I think [Barbra Streisand] is disappointed, she wanted very much to do it. That would have been a good exit for her career."

Barbra would have GREAT and we would have loved to have seen the film adaptation with her in it, but we definitely think she has many more years before her career is over!

With Barbra's magic touch, the movie would have been gold. Oh well.

Streisand Chats About Playing Mama Rose In Gypsy!

barbra-streisand-gypsy-remake__opt1__opt.jpg

We can't express enough how much we love that this is happening. Nothing is giving us greater joy than knowing that in the not so distant future, we're going to see Barbra Streisand belt out Rose's Turn!

When the news broke last month that Babs was going to star in the new version of Gypsy as Mama Rose, we just about fainted and we've been waiting to hear from her what she thinks about the opportunity. As she will be honored this Friday by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences foundation for her tremendous contribution to the arts, Barbra briefly took a moment to talk about Gypsy.

She revealed to sources that the news of the film leaked "a little early, because the deal wasn't finished," but she confirmed she will be playing Mama Rose. However, she added that she might not be directing the film as it was once discussed because that might be "too much" for her. Still, she is excited to step into the iconic role, which she likens to a "bookend starting with 'Funny Girl.'"

Beautifully said! We loved you then, as we love you now and we're sure to love you still when you step into this role!

Confirmed! Barbra In "Serious" Talks With Sondheim & Laurents To Star In Gypsy!

barbra-streisand-gypsy-remake__opt1.jpg

Here she is, boys! Here she is, world! Here's Rose Barbra!

Sources are confirming that Barbra Streisand is in serious talks to star in a movie remake of the classic musical, Gypsy!

Ooh! We got all tingling writing that!

According to an interview with Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents, the men behind Mama Rose an the Gypsy story, Babs has already sat down with them to discuss the film project in depth. Though previous reports indicated that Barbra may also be stepping behind the lens to act as director, Mr. Laurents, the author of the show's book, explains that isn't happening. He explains that she once want to, but decided " playing Rose is enough to make her happy.”

So far,Warner Brothers and Joel Silver are attached as producers and Mr. Laurents reveals that he and Barbra have started to discuss casting. Their choice to play Herbie, Rose’s love interest and the talent manager of her two daughters? Tom Hanks!

Wouldn't that be an interesting pairing!

Though the original 1962 flick has a rather devoted following (and equally devoted group of haters), Mr. Laurents says he is "pleased" that there is a "different film version for the historical record” in the making.

There are no words to express how pleased we are, as well. Hearing this makes us think everything's bright lights and lollipops!

Please, please, PLEASE get started on this right away!

OMG! Streisand To Play Mama Rose In Gypsy!

barbra-streisand-gypsy-remake.jpg

Okay, here's the thing: No one can deny that you couldn't take your eyes off of Rosalind Russell in the 1960's version of Gypsy. She was stellar, perfection even. She made Mama Rose the iconic character she is today.

But if there was anyone who was groomed to fill Rosalind's shoes in the rumored movie remake of the classic musical, it's Barbra Streisand.

Sources are reporting that Babs is at the top of the short list to not only star as Mama Rose in the Gypsy remake, but also produce and direct! But everyone knows, if you going to do Gypsy, you need the blessing of one man to do so - Arthur Laurents, who wrote the book to the show.

Thankfully, in a recent interview, Arthur revealed he would be nothing but thrilled if Babs decided to proceed with the project. He told sources:

"Barbra and I have been getting along very well now for some time. We've talked about it a lot, and she knows what she's doing. She has my approval."

In that case…. DO IT! PLEASE!

What a marvelous opportunity to remind the world of the powerhouse performer you are, Miz Streisand! We've been waiting for something like this from you for years! We can think of nothing in the world we want more than to see this come together!

We're going to pray to the musical gods tonight and every night after, until we hear official word that this is going to happen!

Cher Was A Gypsy!

x-factor-cher-lloyd-was-a-gyspy.jpg

X Factor's Cher Lloyd is standing up for her Romani heritage and says she's "proud" to be a gypsy!

After revealing that she lived in a caravan with her parents and wore hand-me-downs given to her by her Romani aunt, she wants the world to know that she's "never going to forget [her] heritage, no matter what."

She also admitted that she was bullied for her gypsy roots and was labeled the racist term, "pikey," by her classmates.

Cher adds:

"I hate that people can say you’re a pikey and it’s not even considered racist. Romanies haven’t had much of a chance to speak up or be in the public eye – I want to make a start."

Good for you, Cher! We're proud of you for standing up for who you are! The world definitely needs more people like you.
