Serial's Adnan Syed May Not Get That New Trial After All — Find Out The Latest Action The State Is Taking To Keep Him Behind Bars!

Well, we can't say we're surprised.

On Monday the Maryland Attorney General's Office filed a formal appeal against a judge's decision to retry Adnan Syed for the 1999 murder of Hae Min Lee.

Adnan, who was Hae's ex-boyfriend at the time of the killing, was convicted of the heinous crime in 2000. Syed's conviction ultimately inspired the first season of the popular podcast Serial, as well as Undisclosed.

Following the discovery of discrepancies in cellphone evidence and claims of poor legal representation, a judge granted the 36-year-old a retrial back in June.

Unfortunately for Adnan, prosecutors and the state of Maryland are NOT happy with the judge's decision and they

Serial Subject Adnan Syed Is 'Excited' About His Retrial — But How Does The Victim's Family Feel About It??

After finally being granted a new trial by a judge last week, Adnan Syed is "feeling good."

But because he knows the legal process all too well, the subject of the podcast Serial — who is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of his former high school girlfriend Hae Min Lee — isn't getting his hopes up just yet!

Attorney C. Justin Brown has spoken to Syed several times on the phone since the game changing decision was made by Judge Martin P. Welch on June 30.

Serial Season 1 Returning For Daily New Episodes To Cover Adnan Syed's Retrial!

Hae Min Lee's family might not be happy about this, but we sure bet fans will be!

Serial set the recent true crime craze into motion in Late 2014 when Sarah Koenig began examining the trial and conviction of Adnan Syed on her podcast, and it looks like she's not done with the story just yet.

That's because while Season Two of the hit series has been following the controversial story of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, This American Life will actually be returning to the original murder case now that Adnan has been granted a retrial!

The reboot will consist of (at least) three episodes featuring new evidence that could lead to the now-36-year-old's freedom.

Adnan was originally found guilty of premeditated murder back in 2000, but now a new witness named Asia Chapman claims to have been with him just 30 minutes before Hae was last seen and is coming forward to testify on his behalf.

Sarah and producer Dana Chivvis have already released the first episode of the miniseries on their website, which basically recounts the first day of the hearing in Baltimore Circuit Court on Wednesday.

Two more episodes have been teased, and if the case continues to offer new evidence, so will Serial.

We're not sure what reaction we were expecting, but this is much more emotional than we anticipated.

It's been 17 years since Hae Min Lee was murdered, and over a year since Serial's first season examining the case wrapped.

But the victim's family only just spoke publicly for the first time this week.

If you've heard of the popular This American Life podcast Serial, then you're probably aware that Adnan Syed is currently serving a life sentence in prison for strangling his girlfriend Hae back in 1999.

Well, similarly to the developments coming from Netflix's Making a Murderer, the doubts cast on the trial due to Sarah Koenig's investigation seem to be making a case for a retrial for Adnan… much to the dismay of Hae's family and friends.

In fact, at the hearing for the potential retrial in Baltimore Circuit Court on Wednesday, the family issued a statement to Deputy Maryland Attorney General Thiru Vignarajah, saying:
