At the end of June, the department store purchased 20,000 products from local artists ranging from trays to vases and other decorative objects. And to ensure the artists they'd make money, Macy's paid them in cash up front, something that rarely happens when making retail purchases.
The range of products are already available online and can also be purchased at select Macy's stores across the US.
The creative Haitians are hoping American consumers are receptive to their hand-crafted products and are already working on collection ideas for the spring.
Love this idea! Hopefully other retailers will follow in their footsteps.
