Did This Zoo REALLY Just Let The Public Name Its Baby Gorilla 'Harambe McHarambeface'?!

no title

Sometimes, wacky Internet stuff is too good to be true — and with today's news about a Harambe-inspired baby gorilla, it appears that's the case!

According to a site called the Boston Leader, Jinhua Zoo in China was said to have held an online vote to name a baby gorilla, only to have pranksters hijack it with the name Harambe McHarambeface!

Actually, probably not…

The suspicious site reports that the naming contest caught fire with more than 73,000 votes — 93% of the entire total — for Harambe McHarambeface, a combination of the late gorilla's name with that of a boat naming contest that got out of control.

A spokesman for the Chinese zoo allegedly discussed the contest, telling the media:

The Cincinnati Zoo Is 'Not Amused' By All The Harambe Jokes On Social Media

no title

UPDATE, August 23, 1:01 P.M. ET: At some point on Monday evening, the Cincinnati Zoo deactivated their Twitter account.

The zoo offered reporters little by way of comment over the decision, but Twitter users noticed very quickly (below):

Furthermore, the Zoo Director Thane Maynard's Twitter account was hacked last night as well, according to reports.

Obviously, quite a tough time for the zoo on social media.

Though he may forever be remembered as a gorilla taken too soon in a tragic situation, Harambe has lived on… and on… and on… in Internet memes!

And now, the Cincinnati Zoo is NOT happy about it!

The late 17-year-old primate, killed back in May when a young boy crawled into his cage and zookeepers were forced to shoot the gorilla to protect the child, has turned into a social media phenomenon after his death.

Memes, photoshopped pictures, and all kinds of hashtag references have buoyed his memory, both satirically and sincerely.

But Thane Maynard, the director of the Cincinnati Zoo, is absolutely fed up with the references, telling reporters via email (below):

'RIP Taylor Swift' Mural Gets ANOTHER Facelift — Now It's Kanye West! And Another BIG Kim Kardashian Is About To Join Him…

This is too funny!!

Although the wild feud between Taylor Swift and Kanye West may have died down a bit — well, for now, at least — somebody is STILL fighting over Swift's "memorial" graffiti tag, and the changes continue to be hilarious!

If you remember from two days ago, an Australian street artist named LushSux created a "memorial" to Swift on a wall to commemorate her notable feud with Yeezy.

Then, on Thursday we told you that the mural had already been changed to a gorilla from SpongeBob SquarePants and a reference not to Swift or 'Ye, but to Harambe, the Cincinnati Zoo gorilla killed in May after a three-year-old boy fell into his cage.

Now the mural has been defaced AGAIN — and the new picture is absolutely ridiculous!!

Ch-ch-check out the Instagram shot LushSux posted informing the world that, yes, his mural has AGAIN been defaced and altered… this time, as a shrine to "Haramye"!!!

There's even a video of the re-do, and it's set — very appropriately — to the Yeezy song that kicked off the entire feud (below):

Cincinnati Zoo Builds Higher Barriers & Reopens Gorilla Exhibit After Harambe's Tragic Death

The zoo is improving its safety precautions after Harambe's death.

The Cincinnati Zoo's Gorilla World exhibit has reopened for the first time since the tragic death of Harambe the Gorilla.

Late last month, the 17-year-old silverback gorilla was shot and killed after a toddler fell into the enclosure. Officials said tranquilizing the animal would agitate it, so the best thing for the child's safety was to end the creature's life.

The beautiful primate's killing caused quite a bit of controversy, as people began to criticize the kid's parents, as well as the zoo's protocols.

And after a police investigation revealed the tiny tot's mother would not be charged over the incident, zoo director Thane Maynard has decided it's time open up the exhibit once again, telling Cincinnati.com:

"It's been a very difficult time, as you can imagine, with the loss of Harambe…. Losing Harambe is just like losing a family member. People that work at zoos care about their animals very much. And so we are leaning on each other and sticking together, but of course it is time to move on and to see gorillas again."

But he didn't just reopen Gorilla World. Mr. Maynard and his team put in a new, taller, barrier that has wood beams at the top and bottom, as well as netting in between.

The zoo has also installed three security cameras.

And even though Thane increased the enclosure's safety measures, he defended their old perimeter, saying:
