Senate Rejects Conservative Birth Control Amendment To Obama's Healthcare Law

Thank the Lord! Common sense has prevailed!

The senate has rejected a Republican proposal to exempt Catholic affiliated employers from being required to offer employees insurance coverage for women's contraceptives, like the birth control pill.

The debate over birth control and what was titled the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act is far from over, however. Expect to see this issue be blown out of proportion and utilized during the upcoming presidential election by conservatives.

The main reason this bill was not passed was not,

Jillian Michaels Wants Congress To Support Healthier Food

Jillian Michaels letters to congress

In letters written to House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Jillian Michaels is urging Congress to cut subsidies for "big loser" foods.

The celebrity fitness expert believes that "cutting subsidies for unhealthy foods would trim the nation's budget — and American's waistlines", explaining in her letters:

“Some of our government’s current policies and programs actually promote obesity and other diseases by supporting the production and consumption of the very foods that contribute to…health problems.”

As an alternative, she supports a 5-step program laid out by the Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine, which suggests the government ends direct agribusiness payments, privatize crop insurance, force factory farms to clean up their own waste, reform food stamps and reform commodity food purchases.

If this plan will save us money AND save us a few pounds, what are we waiting for?

Apple Bans DUI Checkpoint Apps

Buzzed Banned

Bravo!

We never liked these apps to begin with and we're happy to hear Apple has decided to not allow any more of them!

After pressure from U.S. senators, Apple will ban the sale of any future applications that reveal the locations of DUI checkpoints not publicized by police.

The company released updated review guidelines for its online store, reading:

"Apps which contain DUI checkpoints that are not published by law enforcement agencies, or encourage and enable drunk driving, will be rejected."

While senators applaud the move, they're still not as satisfied as they'd like to be since the guideline only effects FUTURE apps.

Senator Harry Reid of Nevada said:

"I strongly encourage Apple to take the next responsible step of removing all applications that allow unsafe drivers to evade police checkpoints."

It's definitely a step in the right direction, but we feel these apps only do more harm then good by putting other drivers at risk.

Not only will drunk drivers be DRUNK, but they'll be fiddling around on their cell phones to avoid getting caught!

Do U think Apple made the right move or should they have removed all existing applications that reveal the locations of DUI checkpoints?

Victory!

Earlier today, the Senate passed a vote to repeal the 17-year-old policy, "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

President Obama praised Congress and sent a letter to the Democratic National Committee and his supporters on his behalf. This is what he wrote:

Moments ago, the Senate voted to end "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."
When that bill reaches my desk, I will sign it, and this discriminatory law will be repealed.

Gay and lesbian service members — brave Americans who enable our freedoms — will no longer have to hide who they are.

The fight for civil rights, a struggle that continues, will no longer include this one.

This victory belongs to you. Without your commitment, the promise I made as a candidate would have remained just that.
