How Sharks Celebrated The 4th

Sharks Surround Houston Cost

Family fun — with a shark!

Large sharks caught in the Gulf of Mexico are creating a scare (and seemingly also entertainment) for people on Texas beaches.

At least two sharks were caught by fishermen recently along the Texas coast.

Experts say you are more likely to get hit by lightning than be bitten by a shark, but it's still the talk of a couple beaches this holiday weekend.

The shark was released after the (above) picture was taken, so he'll live to tell about the time he got away.

The same fate was made for a smaller version caught near. It was released as well, but with a tracker installed by state parks and wildlife workers.

Snakes Scorpion On A Plane

GREAT JOB TSA!!!!

Somehow a scorpion got past security and on to a plane to sing Alaska Airlines passenger Jeff Ellis.

He sat terrified 30,000 feet in the air staring at the wriggling scorpion that stung him on a flight to Alaska.

Jeff said:

"I felt it on my shirt-sleeve and brushed it off, I thought it was a little spider or something. Then I felt it back on my elbow. In the movies, scorpions kill people. I was just nervous, on edge, making sure that my heart was beating normal, that I wasn't sweating."

An Alaska Airlines spokeswoman said the scorpion probably crawled on board the plane during a stop in Austin, Texas. The plane then landed in Seattle, where Ellis boarded for a flight to Anchorage.

He said he is happy with the flight crew's response, and said the airline has offered him 4,000 frequent-flier miles and two round-trip tickets.

We think he deserves an annual salary. But it's whatever.

A Crow Never Forgets A Face - And Usually Seeks Revenge

dumbo crows

Think crows are scary?

Well maybe you should!!!

Crows remember the faces of threatening humans and often react by scolding and bringing in others to mob the perceived threat (you)!

This, according to a new study published in the latest Proceedings of the Royal Society B.

And since the mob members also then indirectly learn about the threatening person, the findings demonstrate how just a single crow's bad experience with a particular human can spread information about this individual throughout entire crow communities.

Given that crows have impressive memories, people who ruffle the feathers of these birds could experience years of retribution.

Tiger Fake-Out

Gotcha!

A stadium cricket match was canceled and helicopters filled with tranquilizer wielding men were deployed after police got word that a "tiger" was spotted in a field in Britain.

But everyone was made a fool when they came to find the big scary beast was just a stuffed toy.

Could Ashton Kutcher be filming nother season of Punked while preparing for Two and a Half Men?

No… it was probably just a teenage scamp. (Scamp is British for dickhead, right?)

Bronx Zoo May Lose Half It's Budget

Bronz Zoo May Lose Half It's Budget

Be as dramatic as you want red ruffled lemurs!

That wont change Mayor Bloomberg's budget plans.

The mayor wants to chop $4.7 million (50% of what they got last year) from the Bronx Zoo and the New York Aquarium, both run by the Wildlife Conservation Society.

The zoo is obviously in bad shape already. The Zoo's already had two very witty animal escapees (@BornxZooCobra, @BronxZooPeacock) in 2011, if the budget is cut any further all the charming animals will be loose in Manhattan by 2013.

In early 2009, when its budget was slashed by a half-million dollars the society closed three zoo exhibits and cut the society's staff by 186 positions, or 15%.

"We had to make some difficult decisions," John Calvelli, a society spokesman, said in an interview. "We don't have the luxury of firing our walrus."
