Israeli 'Medical Clowns' Patch Adam-ing Up Hospitals

Filed under: Wacky, Tacky & TrueSilly!HealthScience!

MEdical Clown Israel

Hospitals are scary, and they're not fun.

Usually.

A bunch of Israeli hospitals (25 of them) would like to turn at least half of that around — and have employed Medical Clowns to Patch Adams the place up a little bit!

They are on the staff, and have been trained to be there… one Israeli university even offers what might be the first full-time degree program for medical clowning!

Serial Infector May Have Given Thousands Hepatitis C

David Kwiatkowski, a former lab technician, has been given the title "serial infector" after possibly exposing thousands of people to his hepatitis C.

He worked at different hospitals in eight states where he would steal syringes full of anesthetic, inject himself, then refill the syringe with saline and put it back on the shelf.

So he would get high and then cover his tracks, which would leave infected needles in the hospital.

That's disgusting.

Luckily this man has been caught and is now in jail, facing some serious charges.

The state Department of Health and Human Services and its Division of Public Health Services are now testing people who might have been exposed to see if they were infected.

We hope those who were infected find out soon and get the help they need.

George Michael Released

Fab news!

Here's a quick update on George Michael and his health status: he's just been released from the hospital, and will be home for the holidays!

He was in the hospital being treated for pnuemonia, and was hospitalized late last month — so it's been a while, and it's so nice to hear that he's doing well enough to go home!

Too many people are without their families and stuck in hospitals this holiday season, it's nice to see a few get to avoid that!

Keep resting, George!

Justin Timberlake Golf Charity

Sigh. If only all golfers looked like Justin Timberlake.

He looks so cute in that hat!

JT spent some time playing in the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals For Children Open Championship Pro-Am for charity. We mean, it's got his name on it, so why wouldn't he play? Ha!

And that title is absurdly long! Even JTSHFCOCPA is just ridiculous! LOLz!

But, title or not, it's for a good cause — and we get to see JT out and about!

Check out the pics!

Duct Tape Used To Prevent Infection

duct-tape-saves-lives.jpg

We've concluded that duct tape solves all problems.

Besides fixing auto parts, making rad wallets and amazing prom dresses, duct tape also helps to ward off infections.

Check it. A hospital in the midwest has found a unique way to use duct tape to control the spread of infection. Here's some sad stats for ya: Hospital acquired infections are becoming a huge public health problem, costing $30 billion per year in medical bills and causing 99,000 deaths annually.

But, the Trinity Medical Center, which includes four hospitals, is trying to change all that. They have decided to use duct to create a "red box" safe zone, which is a three-foot-square area extending from the door into a patient's room so that hospital employees can communicate with isolated patients without the need of "scrubbing up" and wasting tedious time.

By using this simple system, health care could save $110,000 a year and 2,700 hours of staff time.

That's a lot of money and time saved for something you can pick up from the 99 cent store.

Duct tape is literally saving lives, guys.

Bieber Donating Portion Of Album Proceeds To Children’s Miracle Network

Justin Bieber will be donating a portion of the proceeds from his album My Worlds Acoustic to the Children’s Miracle Network, a charity that raises funds for 170 children’s hospitals across North America.

Said Bieber:

"I am in the position to give back thanks to my fans and God. I wrote ‘Pray’ thinking I wanted to help others and I feel like I have a responsibility to do so. What is the point of doing all this if you can’t make a difference in others lives? This album is a gift to my fans and the money raised from it allows us all to help out."

The Children’s Miracle Network couldn’t be more excited by the partnership, explains Scott Burt, President and CEO:

“Justin’s generous contributions from his new album will make a meaningful difference in saving lives of the children treated at our children’s hospitals. As an organization that donates the most money of any charity to children’s hospitals around the country, we are extremely grateful for his support. With the proceeds, we will be able to create even more miracles for children.”

We love Bieber!!!
