Sorry captain, but we're having a bit of trouble buying this!
To recap - on Saturday, we heard the upsetting news that a cruise ship carrying 4,000+ people ran aground off the coast of Italy.
Then on Monday we heard that a previously halted search for survivors had resumed AND we heard that "human error" was being cited as the cause for the tragic event.
THEN yesterday, we learned that the ship's captain Francesco Schettino was being held in jail for "manslaughter, shipwreck, and abandoning a ship when passengers were still on board." We also heard that the official death toll had reached 11 people. Ugh.
Now, the captain is claiming that he ACCIDENTALLY abandoned the ship! Here's what he had to say about it during a hearing yesterday:
