Rocawear's Rooting For The Home Team With NY Yankee Sponsorship

Rocawear is throwing their baseball diamonds in the sky — at Yankee Stadium!

On Wednesday Jay-Z's clothing company announced they will be sponsoring the New York Yankees for the 2012 season.

As part of the sponsorship, Rocawear will have branded signage in Yankee stadium and integrated promotions throughout the season.

Iconix Brand Group's EVP of Marketing, Jameel Spencer, says the partnership was natural:

"Jay-Z has been a long-time fan of the Yankees, regularly attends games and has even included his favorite team in song lyrics, so this was a natural partnership. Rocawear, along with Jay-Z are very excited to be working with the Yankees for the 2012 season. We feel another championship in ‘12!"

First the Yankees release not one but two fragrances and now this?

Kinda bizarre, no?

Madonna Is Taking Over 2012

Madonna has a very busy year ahead of her.

Aside from the premiere of her new film W.E., Madonna is also working on her clothing label Material Girl, her first fragrance, a new record, a tour, and she’s performing this Sunday at the Super Bowl.

And despite working so much, even those in her business circles are excited to be near her.

Rocawear Having Financial Issues?

Bad news for Rocawear staff members.

Jay Z’s company has laid off half of their employees!

The rap mogul actually sold his company back in 2007 to Iconix Brand Group but he stayed on as a shareholder.

He’s also responsible for product development as well as marketing and licensing.

Unfortunately, the company blames the bad global economy for the loss of all those jobs.

They had to let go of 28 of their 56 employees.

Times are tough.

Iconix Brand Inks A Deal With Ed Hardy

On Wednesday, Iconix Brand announced they acquired the worldwide master license for all things Ed Hardy and now own 85% of the brand.

The company purchased the license from from Nervous Tattoo for a cool $55 million.

That's a lot of money!

Audrina Patridge is once again the face of Bongo and we've gotta say the second time around is much better than the first.

Deets On Madge's Material Girl Expansion!

We knew it!

After proving to be a huge success for Macy's, Madonna's junior line Material Girl will be expanding.

At Wednesday night's launch, Iconix Brand's CFO Lanie List revealed what we can expect from the line in the future:

"We’re focused on rolling Material Girl out into additional categories, including swim and intimates and expanding the dress assortments. We launched footwear with ballet flats this season, but we’re going to expand into a full footwear collection going forward. It’s all under discussion."

Exciting!

But can we make one suggestion?

Get rid of Taylor Momsen, she does nothing for the brand.
