Oh, Sarah Palin.
The former half-term governor of Alaska went on CNN Sunday morning and discussed presidential candidate Jeb Bush's bilingual campaigning and speaking Spanish during his run.
Speaking to CNN's Jake Tapper, Sarah ranted about Jeb and eventually randomly got caught on to immigrants in general, saying:
"I think we can send a message and say, ‘You want to be in America, (a) you'd better be here legally or you're out of here, (b) when you're here, let's speak American. Let's speak English, and that's a kind of a unifying aspect of the nation is the language that is understood by all."
Is American a language?? (No.) Is
American English the United States' official language? (No.) Does the United States even have an official language?? (No.)
Basically, Sarah, STOP! Spanish is a very common language in this country, and it's going to continue to be a common language in this country — if anything, we should be encouraging all of our children to be bilingual!!
What do U think — should immigrants speak 'American' in this country??
