Jewel shows that she's one of the top animal lovers in the world!

The singer spotted an injured hummingbird on her Texas ranch and tweeted a pic of her new avian friend.

She tweeted the following message:

Luckily the 400-pound gorilla was caught before it got into the public areas of the zoo.

Koga, a 24-year-old gorilla, was able to get out of his cage at the Buffalo Zoo.

No one is sure how he got out but no one questions that when his cage door was left unlocked he had no choice but to try for freedom.

An elephant at an Amsterdam zoo was playing one day when the 44-year-old pachyderm scratched its left cornea.

The poor Asian elephant's eye was left constantly watering.

So they did what was a first in Europe, and gave the elephant a contact lens.

The zoo's website said:

"Win Thida is the first elephant in Europe with a contact lens."

The procedure to put in the contact took about an hour.

Hopefully the elephant will be much more comfortable now while it heals.

Russia's week full of sharks is a lot less fun than ours.

Today Russian emergency officials have officially warned everyone to stay the f out of the 840 mile stretch of the Pacific coast after two unprecedented shark attacks on swimmers this week.

The 25-year-old man lost both his hands to a shark, after rescuing his wife Wednesday. The second attack, on a 16-year-old boy came Thursday.

According to the Huffington Post one doc said the kid's injury looked like "someone had passed a sharpened rake over the legs."

As gross as that may be, we are pleased to everyone has survived the attacks!

Though, this is spoiled summer fun for lots of vacationing Russians.

This sucks.

EL LAY County just passed a new ordinance that allows animal control officers to decided weather or not a dog is to vicious to live!!

Before this ordnance Superior Court's were the only ones with the power to determine the vicious state of a dog.

The now ordinance will ALSO expand the definition of “vicious” to include a “serious illness or injury” to a human. WTF??

To us this just means there are going to be A LOT more dogs euthanized by the LA government in years to come. The officers should at least need approval before putting a dog down!

According to cesarsway.com officials said the changes in this ordinance were needed to prevent owners of dangerous dogs from moving across county lines.

Oh no!

Singer and animal activist Morrissey has fractured his index finger after being attacked by a dog.

As he squabbles with fans and searches for a new label, the noted vegetarian was apparently confronted by a canine critic – sending the singer to hospital. Thankfully, the incident will not interrupt his tour.
