Chris Kyle was one of the most successful snipers to ever serve the United States. The Navy SEAL survived several tours during the most turbulent years of the Iraq War.
Unfortunately, the American Sniper author could not survive a gun range in Texas.
Chris was reportedly taking a young vet to the firing range as a kind of therapy. He often helped out vets trying to re-assimilate back into civilian life, even forming the Fitco Cares Foundation to help through exercise and counseling.
But this particular former Marine was apparently beyond help. He allegedly turned on Chris and another man and shot them both dead with a handgun.
We may never understand what went on in the head of this young man, but we understand all too well the man America lost- not just a war hero, but a peacetime one as well.
Such a tragic end for a good man.

Barack Obama inspired many Americans to become first-time voters in 2008 and he wants to do it again in 2012, so he enlisted in the help of Lena Dunham.
In a cute new campaign ad (above), the Girls creator begins to talk about voting as if it's like losing your virginity and says:
"Your first time shouldn't be with just anybody. You want to do it with a great guy … Someone who really cares about and understands women."
She proceeds to launch into a tirade of reasons why the President is a better candidate than Mitt Romney by citing his policies on health insurance, birth control, ending the Iraq war and gay marriage.
Her first time voting was for Obama in 2008 and she calls the experience "amazing" because she went into the polling booth "a girl" and came out "a woman."
Unfortunately, this metaphor may have been too risqué for

You've come a loooong way, Spicoli! We are impressed! Ha!
During a recent dinner party at his house, Sean Penn sat down with one of his friend's dates, who happened to be an Iraq war veteran.
The vet opened up to Sean about his massive medical bills, and the actor/activist listened intently and took him very seriously.
Here's what a source had to say about it:

Megan Levy is a former marine with two tours of Iraq under her belt.
She became a handler for bomb sniffing dogs.
But when she retired, her dog, Rex, didn't.
After serving some more, Rex eventually came down with a condition that would lead to him having to be put to sleep if he couldn't be adopted.
So Megan has been fighting through the bureaucracy and red tape to try and get her dog to her.
Due to the power of this story (and the fact she received a purple heart) a senator, the owner of the Yankees and many others have stepped in to try and get her dog to her.

Multiple reports claim there have been militia attacks targeted at the emo youth and LGBT community!!
Apparently those behind the attacks "warned" the communities of the upcoming massacre a month ago with posters, etc. posted throughout cafes and street corners in Baghdad.
Since the attacks began, local media has reported the numbers of victims so far to range from

Today, we are proud to be American!
After nine years, the U.S. military has formally ended its mission in Iraq!
U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta flew into Baghdad today to partake in a low-key ceremony outside a terminal, during which American troops lowered their command's flag that officially marked Operation New Dawn, rolled it around the staff, and slipped into a camouflage cloth case.
"To be sure, the cost was high, in blood and treasure for the United States and for the Iraqi people. Those lives were not lost in vain. They gave birth to an independent, free and sovereign Iraq. Let me be clear. Iraq will be tested in the days ahead by terrorism and by those who would seek to divide it; by economic and social issues; by the demands of democracy itself. Challenges remain, but the U.S. will stand by the Iraqi people as they navigate those challenges to build a stronger and more prosperous nation.”
We were starting to worry whether or not we'd ever see this day come!
But we're so thankful that it has!

82-year-old Don Downer is known as the "Spam czar," because he's sent over 1,400 packages of spam to U.S. troops overseas! Wowsa!
The former Marine Corps sergeant has been honored for his support of the troops, and he's also received HUNDREDS of thank you letters from troops in both Afghanistan and Iraq!
Here's what Don had to say about the responses he gets from troops:
