MASSIVE 18-Foot Oarfish Found Off Cali Coast!! See The Crazy Pic HERE!

Massive 18-foot-long Oarfish found off the California coast!

A marine science instructor was snorkeling off the coast of sunny SoCal when they spotted something pretty amazing:

An 18-foot-long Oarfish!!

Jasmine Santana of the Catalina Island Marine Institute (CIMI) saw the huge, shiny, silver body laying on the seafloor.

It's one of the largest oarfish they've seen at CIMI.

Oarfish tend to dive over 3,000-feet-deep so seeing them is pretty rare.

Luckily, when this 18-footer died of natural causes he floated up to where the scientists found him.

The giant oarfish can actually grow to an incredible 50-feet-long!!

They're apparently the reason for old, giant sea serpent myths.

Now, the fish is being buried in the sand to decompose so its skeleton can be reconstituted and put on display.

Congrats on the find, Jasmine!!

Swimmer Sets Record With 15-Foot Shark Chasing Her!!

A swimmer set a record while a 15-foot tiger shark was tailing her!!

Meredith Novack is the first woman to swim the almost 20-mile round trip between the Hawaiian islands of Lanai and Maui.

Not only did she complete the swim, but she did it 44 minutes faster than the men's record!!

Oh, and she was being tailed by a 15-foot tiger shark the whole time!!!

The 37-year-old had no idea the monster was right behind her… because her crew didn't tell her!!

Though she was apparently glad they said nothing. She wanted to concentrate on the swim, and, besides, she felt protected because of her Shark Shield!!

What's Shark Shield? Their website defines it as:

"Two electrodes that emit electric waves, creating an elliptical-shaped field around a swimmer or diver."

This electrical field shield really bugs sharks and forces them to keep their distance.

Thank goodness for her Shark Shield or else that 15-footer might've had himself a tasty swimmer snack!

Though maybe if she knew that shark was behind her, she would've knocked another few minutes off that record! LOLz!

Shark Attack Victim Saved After Nearby Doctor MacGyvers His Wounds!

Shark Week is all too real, folks!

Erik Norrie is lucky to be alive after a shark took a big bite out of his leg!!

He was off the coast of the Abaco Islands in the Bahamas, spearfishing when a shark came out of nowhere and just bit a chunk off of his left leg!

The chunk was pretty big, and blood was pouring out! He really thought he was going to die, but luckily, his wife and four daughters were there to tend to him until a nearby doctor, who just happened to be in the area, was able to get there and help.

What are the odds of that? Someone's got this man's back!

Using rubber bands from his spear, he was able to stop a good amount of bleeding. Then it was off to the hospital where he's currently recovering.

Erik going to need several skin grafts but he's confident doctors will get his leg looking and feeling just about normal again.

Check out the video (above) to see how this man is in such good spirits after surviving such an awful attack.

Dolphin Escapes Pen, Rejoins Former Family From Years Ago!

This is so incredible!!

A dolphin named Sampal was originally caught by fishermen off Jeju Island, near South Korea.

She was then illegally sold to the Pacific Land Aquarium. There, she was forced to constantly perform tricks for food.

Ric O'Barry, a long time fighter for the rights of sea creatures and director of Earth Island Institute's Dolphin Project convinced the aquarium to give up their dolphins!
