If he decides to run, we'd say there is a good chance!
Alec Baldwin has apparently been interested in running for Mayor of New York City for a while now, but all this talk about Anthony Weiner's sexting may be encouraging the politically involved actor to finally do it!
A friend of Baldwin recently told a reporter:
"Alec said, 'Hey, maybe this changes the race. The dynamics have shifted.' The Democrats need a high-profile candidate, and Alec can fill that bill."
There have been other clues suggesting he is going to move into politics sooner than later too. The actor expressed interest in running for office before Weinergate came along, but since the top state seats were filled with Democrats he wouldn't want to take one, saying:
"It would be easier for me to run if I moved – California or Connecticut or somewhere. And I'm not prepared to do that right now."
Now with his 30 Rock contract coming to an end and possibly Weiner's political aspirations as well, the notion of running for office in his home state of New York is looking slightly more attainable. He recently shared his disappointment in Ivy League politicians, saying:
"I don't want to say this in an anti-elitist way, but we've had men who are Ivy League groomed running this country since 1988. We've had 22 years of Yale and Harvard running this country right now, and the problems aren't getting solved."
Considering how much people LOVE his character on 30 Rock and his appearances on Saturday Night Live, we think he'd have a lot of public support. Aside from his celebrity appeal, the Huffington Post blogger also has a sensible head on his shoulders and seems to have a lot of good ideas to bring to the table.
Do U agree with Alec's statement about the Ivy Leaguers running the country right now and would U vote for him if he ran for public office?
