What an unbelievably tragic story.
Jack Jakubek spent his life in and around water, but it was unfortunately his love for swimming that ended up causing his death.
That's because the 22-year-old swimmer drowned during lifeguard tryouts in Cape Cod on Saturday morning, just two weeks after graduating from college.
But what makes this news even more incomprehensible is that Jack was actually the captain of the swim team at SUNY Cortland, which makes his death by drowning that much more shocking.
The New York native apparently went under water during a routine physical test and never came up, and while the medical examiner has yet to deliver a report, we're hearing a pulmonary disorder may have had to do with the accident.
To make this even sadder, however, is that Jack died just hours after wishing his mother a happy 57th birthday.
Stay safe out there, everyone.
