Exiled director Roman Polanski is ready to return stateside to settle that controversial child rape case from 1977.
At the time, Polanski made a plea deal with the now-deceased judge Laurence Rittenband to spend 48 days at Chino State Prison… and after he was released after serving 42 of those 48 days, Rittenband had a change of heart and ordered Polanski to spend up to 50 years behind bars.
Cue Polanski packing his bags and fleeing to Europe as a fugitive.
In 2009, the Chinatown director was captured in Switzerland and spent 334 more days in custody while U.S. authorities unsuccessfully attempted to extradite him.
Now, TMZ reports the 83-year-old's attorney Harland Braun wants U.S. courts to honor the original plea deal and unseal secret testimony that proves the agreement so that his client can travel freely around the world.
