Jane Birkin Asks Hermes To Rename Her Namesake Bag After Seeing How Crocodiles Are Slaughtered For Their Skin — Read The Company's Response HERE!

Jane Birkin doesn't want her name associated with the bag.

Jane Birkin wants her name to stop being associated with the famous Hermes handbag.

The iconic actress and singer saw gruesome footage of a crocodile being killed for its skin on a Texas farm, prompting her to ask that the French brand look into its practices.

She said:

"Having been alerted to the cruel practices endured by crocodiles during their slaughter for the production of Hermès bags carrying my name … I have asked Hermès Group to rename the Birkin until better practices responding to international norms can be implemented for the production of this bag."

Hermes responded with this statement:

"Jane Birkin has expressed her concerns regarding practices for slaughtering crocodiles. Her comments do not in any way influence the friendship and confidence that we have shared for many years. Hermès respects and shares her emotions and was also shocked by the images recently broadcast."

The company is also launching an investigation into the matter:

"An investigation is underway at the Texas farm which was implicated in the video. Any breach of rules will be rectified and sanctioned. Hermès specifies that this farm does not belong to them and that the crocodile skins supplied are not used for the fabrication of Birkin bags."

"Hermès imposes on its partners the highest standards in the ethical treatment of crocodiles. For more than 10 years, we have organized monthly visits to our suppliers. We control their practices and their conformity with slaughter standards established by veterinary experts and by the Fish and Wildlife (a federal American organization for the protection of nature) and with the rules established under the aegis of the U.N.O, by the Washington Convention of 1973 which defines the protection of endangered species."

The Birkin is probably the most famous and coveted bag in the world.

Prices for a crocodile skin purse can range up to astronomical amounts, like THIS ONE for $120,000.

So many celebrities have one that we've lost count.

Jean Paul Gaultier Celebrates The 80s With A Thriller Of A Collection

Break out the hairspray and the crimper! Because Jean Paul Gaultier is taking everyone back to the 80s!

On Saturday the French designer presented his S/S 2013 offerings, and like Philip Treacy, he had pop icons on the brain.

JPG said in his show notes:

"This is an homage to all the pop stars of the Eighties who have influenced fashion and my fashion with their look. Any similarity with real events or characters is purely noncoincidental."

And how could it not be when the Parisian runway was lined with Michael Jackson, Madonna, Boy George, Annie Lennox, Jane Birkin and Grace Jones look-a-likes.

JPG even threw in a David Bowie twin for good measure.

Loves it!

As for the clothes, they weren't so bad either. That is if you don't mind reliving all the 80s trends.

Check out show HIGHlights in the clip (above)!

Jane Birkin's Hermes Bag Fetches More Than $160K On eBay

jane-birkin-hermes-bag-auctioned-off-for-160000.jpg

Wowza!

Jane Birkin's namesake Hermes bag sold for big bucks on eBay.

The charity auction opened on April 6th at the low, low price of $2000, but skyrocketed to $162,840 by the time bidding closed this week.

That's a lot of money for a bag that may have been sat on by her cat, but at least it's going to a good cause. All the proceeds from Jane's Birkin is being donated to the British Red Cross for relief efforts in Japan.
