Elijah Wood is set to star in the new FX show Wilfred where he befriends a talking dog, played by Jason Gann.

The Lord of the Rings star explains:

"…It's about a man who befriends a dog who he sees as a man in a dog suit. I'm very excited where it's going to go."

Sounds like someone was sniffing too much catnip while writing this!

Elijah Wood will star in a comedy series on FX entitled Wilfred, which is based on an Australian TV show.

The network ordered 13 episodes and Wood will star opposite Jason Gann, co-creator and star of the original series. The show is about “about a guy, Ryan (Wood), the girl next door (Fiona Gubelmann), and mixed-breed dog, Wilfred (Gann), who is part Labrador retriever and part Russell Crowe on a bender.”

LOLz.

The series will premiere during the summer of 2011.
