WTF, Twitter? The Organizer Of The Charlottesville White Nationalist Rally Just Got Verified…

UGH.

People are understandably upset because alt-right journalist Jason Kessler – who was the principal organizer of the Unite The Right white nationalist rally in Charlottesville — was verified on Twitter. Da fuck?

Typically, the blue check means that an account "of public interest is authentic" — but the company has withheld it from other high-profile accounts in the past, like with Julian Assange.

After getting hit with a ton of criticism online, the social media site has now paused its verification program until further notice.

Charlottesville Mayor Calls For Removal Of Confederate Statues!

Good riddance!

As we reported, last week, a "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville against the removal of a Robert E. Lee statue in a nearby park resulted in the death of 32-year-old Heather Heyer when white nationalist James Alex Fields Jr. allegedly plowed his car into a crowd of counterprotesters.

Although the Charlottesville City Council voted this year to remove the statue and rename the location as Emancipation Park, a judge issued a temporary injunction in May preventing Virginia authorities from moving the Confederate symbol for six months.

However, Mayor Mike Signer (pictured above) is calling the shots, and he wants all the monuments — including the Lee effigy — to be gone!

The fallout continues…

As we reported, James Alex Fields Jr. was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and malicious wounding after he allegedly plowed his car into protesters injuring 19, and killing 32-year-old Heather Heyer at a demonstration in Virginia on Saturday.

On Monday, Tadrint and Micah Washington – who were in the car that Fields rammed into — are suing him, rally organizers (including David Duke, Richard Spencer, and Jason Kessler), and other white nationalist organizations for assault and battery, and civil conspiracy and negligence.

They are seeking $3 million in damages.

Tadrint and Micah — who suffered injuries as a result of the crash — say they were not tied to any protest group at the time of the event, and were simply trying to head home.

We wouldn't be surprised if there are more lawsuits against the alt-right in the future.
