The seXXXy former Gossip Girl star sealed his hipster status when he took on the role of the late and great Jeff Buckley in Greetings From Tim Buckley and not ONLY can he rock that questionable wig, but he can also sing!!!

Yes, he is hot AND he can serenade us!

We're not sure how great his impression is, yet thankfully we don't really care as long as we get to see that pretty mug on the big screen.

Oh, didn't you know?

When Penn Badgley isn't busy playing Lonely Boy on Gossip Girl, he's invoking Jeff Buckley!

A lot of you were probably first introduced to the wonder of Buckley when his version of Hallelujah serenaded Marissa Cooper's death on The O.C. (as well as the Season 1 finale montage).

But the musical wizard had plenty more where that came from — including a very special cover of Lilac Wine.

And since Penn is playing Jeff Buckley in the upcoming biopic, he took his "research" and performed the beautiful song LIVE at one of New York's lovely little clubs.

He and Leighton Meester need to do a duet. And they need to do one now! Riight?

Uh-oh, Penn Badgley!

Looks like you've got some competition!

The actor has been tapped for a lead role in the in-development Jeff Buckley biopic, Greetings from Tim Buckley, but apparently, he'll be facing another film focusing on the life of the late singer, this one starring Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark actor Reeve Carney!

The late singer's mother, Mary Guibert, has reportedly approved of director Jake Scott's project with Reeve in the lead, and has given them exclusive access to his songs and personal archive!

She reveals:

Sorry, R-Patz! We know you really wanted the role, but it looks like Penn Badgley has landed the role of Jeff Buckley in the upcoming Biopic!

Penn couldn't be happier either, as he's been trying to figure out a way to leave the Gossip Girl image in the past and get into more serious acting with deeper roles — and this could be just the part!

That still leaves Rob high and dry though, but, you win some and you lose some! You'll find another project soon!

There's been so much speculation behind the Jeff Buckley story, we can't believe that the biopic has actually been given a greenlight!

Brad Pitt had tried for years to develop Buckley's story into a movie, but was met with resistance by Jeff's mother, Mary Guibert.

Looks like Mrs. Guibert has come to a decision though, as the movie will be made, but without Pitt.

Filmmaker Jake Scott, who directed Welcome to the Rileys, will direct the film, which starts production this fall.

So far no word on who will play Jeff, but many names have been thrown around including R-Patz, James Franco, and more.
