Yet another reason why this show should have never been re-made for American audiences.

Now that the US adaptation of the hit British series Skins has debuted on MTV, the network bosses are reportedly concerned that some of explicit content involving the teenaged actors could be breaking the country's child pornography laws, which is described in the states as any "visual depiction of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct," or an images of nude children if it is "significantly sexually suggestive."

In a future episode, the character of Chris, played by 17-year-old Jesse Carere, is depicted running down the street naked, and features a story about him taking erectile dysfunction meds, and the bosses at the network are apparently so concerned that they held an emergency meeting Tuesday to discuss the issue with the show's producers.

Meanwhile, spokesperson Jeannie Kedas says:

"Skins is a show that addresses real-world issues confronting teens in a frank way. We review all of our shows and work with all of our producers on an ongoing basis to ensure our shows comply with laws and community standards. We are confident that the episodes of Skins will not only comply with all applicable legal requirements, but also with our responsibilities to our viewers."

This is EXACTLY what we were so concerned about!

The premiere episode essentially took the original and remade it shot for shot, didn't even bother to ADAPT the British slang, style, OR school system - all of which was just forced and awkward - and then watered down the stuff that they legally couldn't show on TV here.

And we're not going to even START on the swears being bleeped out.

Just mortifying to sit through.

If they want to make this authentic, honest, and RELEVANT to American teens, then they need to just ignore the original series and put the characters in realistic situations that make them culturally relatable.

Who cares about the nudity? If you can't show it here, then don't.

Focus instead on just making it GOOD.

Thoughts?? What did U think of the series premiere of Skins??
