A film festival in Jakarta, Indonesia that attempts to raise awareness of gay issues reportedly turned violent due to protesting from an Islamic extremist group last night.
Members of the Islamic Defender Front allegedly took to wearing masks, chanting homophobic war cries, and even threatened to set fire to the venue, being hosted by the Q! Film Festival.
Although the festival's co-founder, John Badalu, originally claimed that “We’re still going to go on," some of last night's screenings had to be stopped in order to insure that the violence would not escalate.
So unbelievably sad that so many people continue to live with that much anger and hate inside of them.
It honestly just breaks our heart.
