Putting honor before promotion.

The Walking Dead producers have canceled their upcoming press tour panel at the Television Critics Association to attend the funeral of stuntman John Bernecker, who died in an on-set accident last month.

Showrunner Scott Gimple was expected to attend the bi-annual press event on Saturday alongside executive producers Gale Anne Hurd, Robert Kirkman, Dave Alpert, and Greg Nicotero.

But producers have decided to skip out on the event as it would conflict with the 33-year-old's funeral service, AMC said in a statement on Thursday.

As we previously reported, Bernecker was filming a stunt for Season 8 in July which required him to fall over 20 feet off of a balcony onto a safety pad.

According to assistant director Matthew Goodwin, Bernecker failed to get a "good separation" from the balcony and missed the safety cushion, instead landing on his head and neck on the concrete.

Bernecker was airlifted to an Atlanta medical center and was placed on a ventilator, which his family opted to turn off the next day.

AMC shut down production on Season 8 for a week following Bernecker's death. The hit series returns on October 22.

It's been a rough week for The Walking Dead — so much so they considered canceling their appearance at San Diego Comic-Con altogether.

Instead, according to moderator Chris Hardwick, the cast decided to carry on their tradition for the fans.

Hardwick, who also hosts aftershow Talking Dead, began the Fear The Walking Dead panel with a moment of silence for stuntman John Bernecker, who passed away last week after a stunt gone wrong.

How does a routine fall lead to the death of an experienced stuntman?

That's what Georgia police are investigating after the tragic death of stunt performer John Bernecker, who died on July 12 after plummeting headfirst from a 22-foot balcony on the set of The Walking Dead.

Capt. John Kennedy has been assigned the case through the Coweta County Sheriff's Office, which has been instructed to "freeze" all provision of investigation materials to the media amid the probe.

Local law enforcement ran into trouble right after the incident. Officials failed to interview stunt coordinator Monty L. Simons on the scene as most crewmembers had been instructed to leave within minutes of the accident.

Responding officer Deputy Sheriff J.P. Traylor was also unable to interview TWD's first assistant director on the episode, the person who generally is responsible for set safety.

Instead, Traylor was able to speak with only two of those present: second assistant director Matthew Goodwin and actor Austin Amelio, who was also on the balcony during the fall.

Bernecker's girlfriend Jennifer Cocker, a fellow stunt performer, has questioned Amelio's presence on the balcony, noting it was the wrong move to "put a super professional stuntman with an inexperienced actor who doesn't know what he's doing."

But bigger issues are still being called into question, like why set photos show a balcony without any

So heartbreaking.

All the tragedy on The Walking Dead is supposed to be ridiculous and post-apocalyptic, but this week it was all too real.

Meanwhile Bernecker's girlfriend, fellow stuntwoman Jennifer Cocker, has some very specific ideas about who's at fault. She told TMZ:

"Sets need to be safer. There has to be a prerequisite not to put a super professional stuntman with an inexperienced actor who doesn't know what he's doing."

The actor with whom Bernecker was working was Austin Amelio, who plays Dwight on the show. He reportedly told police afterward that Bernecker said he was nervous and had never done a drop from so high.

Currently both SAG-AFTRA and OSHA are investigating the accident.

Amelio took to Twitter this afternoon to write:
