A Johnson City, New York area Petco let several of its animals drown in a flood.
The Petco stood by and did nothing as the waters rose.
The Susquehana river had begun to flood, prompting evacuations all around, and even another nearby pet store to evacuate its animals by boat. The owner bought a kayak just to save his animals.
The Petco manager would not allow his employees to even temporarily foster the animals.
Petco released a statement on their facebook page, saying:
We are investigating why we did not receive those evacuation orders from the city if this area was known to flood in the past.
Hmm. Funny. Your store was there back when the same flood happened in 2006.
They even said:
An associate went by to check the store at 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday night and there were no signs of flooding or a flood warning in effect.
The store was underwater by Thursday morning.
The Petco is trying to blame the situation on a “backed up drainage system.”
There is no excuse for letting animals die like that.
