Julie Taymor Reunites With Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark Team For Opening Night!

julie taymor reunites for spider man opening

Such a lovely end to a dramatastic story!

Yesterday, we made it clear that we believed Julie Taymor deserved to be at opening night of Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, even if there is some bad blood between herself and the other show creators.

Sources were saying that she was expected to attend, and sure enough, Julie was at the show last night AND she even took pictures with some of the team including Bono and The Edge (above)!

Must have been nice for the Spider-Man team when they got a standing ovation at the end…even though the critics are still not into the show.

Here's what Bono said, which spurred the standing ovation:

Will Julie Taymor Attend The Opening Of Spider-Man Tonight?

That depends on what you believe.

If you believe that despite their differences, the producers of Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark still value what director Julie Taymor did for the production of the musical since its inception, then yes she will be there tonight at the show's official opening. If you think the producers still hold a grudge against Taymor for all the "trouble" she caused them, then … no, not even then. She's going to be there. She deserves to be there, no matter how much bad blood is between herself and the other creators.

Still, her people haven't made a formal announcement that she will attend opening night, but according to sources, it is very unlikely she will stay away. As they explain:

"I'm told that the show's masterful creator, Julie Taymor, is likely to attend the premiere. She should, and she should take a big bow at curtain call. Tonight closes almost nine years worth of hard work."

That's exactly how we feel. She might've had a hand in its pitfalls, but so did a lot of other people who put far less time, effort and creativity in getting the show established to begin with. We don't think its fair not to recognize all the good things she did when so much attention has been given to the bad. Past is in the past. Let's swing forward and see if this show has a future!

Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark's Bono Talks Julie Taymor

bono talks julie taymor

Back in May, Bono spoke about Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, and he had less-than-flattering things to say about it.

Now, Bono has opened up about "sort of" director/co-writer Julie Taymor.

Here's what he had to say about her:

"She's so involved with the details of her work and perhaps she got a little tired. She got so close to it perhaps in the last moments she couldn't see it."

Inneresting insights, Bono. Guess we'll see if the musical fares better without her, when the revamped version officially opens on Tuesday.

What do U think about Bono's comments about Julie?

Spider-Man: Take Out The Check Book! Spidey Producers Owe Julie Taymor $$$!

julie taymor owed money by spider man team

Back in March, we learned that original Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark director/co-writer Julie Taymor would retain her credits, despite the fact that she left the show.

We had heard at the time that one of the reasons she was being allowed to keep those credits was because "[the] producers have spent so much money that they don't have a cash payout for Taymor anyway."

Looks like credits might not be enough, because now the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society is filing an arbitration claim against Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark producers on Julie's behalf.

The union claims that Julie is owed approximately $300,000 in royalties, which she has yet to receive.

One of the lead producers on the show, Michael Cohl, says that the Spidey team is in the process of "trying to resolve financial disputes."

Hopefully they're able to work everything out soon! The show opens on Tuesday, and we can't imagine the producers would want something like this hanging over their heads.

Then again, Spider-Man has been plagued with so many issues, maybe they're just used to dealing with drama by now.

What do u think about all this Spider-Man dramz? Do U think Julie Taymor deserves $300k, even though she was fired?

Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark Producers Talk Production Woes

spider man turn off the dark producers talk production woes

It's been a long, tough, challenging, and DANGEROUS road for the Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark team!

The producers behind the cursed project have opened up, for the first time, about the treacherous road they've traveled with this production.

Here's what producer Jeremiah "Jere" Harris had to say about it:

“There's nothing easy on this show. From the time he and I took over and got involved, this has been a constant battle from every perspective.”

More from producer Michael Cohl:

“[The original story] was muddled [and] difficult to follow. It lacked emotion. It lacked spirit and sincerity."

"The reorganization makes it feel really good. The flying, the special effects, the beauty of the show, the Julie atmosphere and attitude — it's all staying."

"I am not the least bit embarrassed by any of this. And I know Jere isn't either. We tried to do something that's ambitious to the third power."

We certainly give them credit for taking on such an ambitious project, and we'd give them EVEN MORE credit if people hadn't been injured during the process.

Let's just hope it's smooth sailing from here on out…and we know that's A LOT to hope for!

Original Version Of Spider-Man Musical Swings On 42nd St For The Last Time

spiderman-musical-goes-dark.jpg

An end to a era, but hopefully the next chapter will be better than the last.

It's been a grueling few months for the cast, crew and creators of Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark. The $65 million musical has found most of its cast in the hospital, its director without a job and its reviews scathing to say the least. With time not on their side, producers have planned a major overhaul of the "historic" show creatively and are hoping to get it back on its feet next month.

So this weekend, the original version of the show, imagined by director Julie Taymor and her team, will take its final bow swing. After that, the show will go on a three-week hiatus to implement all the new changes.

We're sure this is for the best, but then again, what other choice do they have really? Hopefully, whatever producers have up their sleeve will be profitable to them and still enticing for audiences.

Good luck with that!
