Mexican Singer Kalimba's Rape Case Gets Appealed

Filed under: Icky Icky PooLegal Matters

kalimba rape case to be appealed

Last week, we learned that Mexican singer Kalimba, who faced charges of raping a 17-year-old girl, was released when there wasn't enough evidence to convict him.

We were NOT 100% convinced that he was innocent, and it looks like we weren't the only ones who were skeptical, because now prosecutor Francisco Alor has appealed the judge's decision to dismiss Kalimba's rape charges.

Apparently, Alor is not optimistic that the appeal will work, but he's giving it a try anyway "based on the overriding interests of the minor, international treaties on protecting minors and in view of the opinions of the human rights commission."

The National Human Rights Commission, which Alor mentions above, has launched an investigation to see if the case was handled correctly.

We're glad to hear some wheels are continuing to move with this case.

If Kalimba is innocent, then he certainly should be able to walk free, but if he is in fact guilty, then we hope justice will inevitably be served.

Mexican Singer Kalimba Released, Rape Case Dismissed

We sincerely hope that this was the right call. An innocent man deserves the right to walk free, but we'd hate to think he committed such a heinous crime and didn't pay for it.

Mexican singer Kalimba was released today after a judge ruled there wasn't enough evidence of convicting him of rape. Last week, Kalimba was deported back to Mexico to face the charge of raping a 17-year-old girl in a hotel back in December. He maintained his innocence, but refused to divulge if he had had any kind of sexual relationship with this girl.

That sounds a little suspicious to us, but if the evidence wasn't there to convict him, we guess there isn't much that can be done.

Geez. We wonder how many rapists haven't answered for their crime for just that reason? Shame.

Mexian Singer Kalimba Deported From The US, Jailed In Caribbean Regarding Rape Allegations

Things are not looking good.

Mexican pop singer Kalimba has been arrested and jailed after a Mexican judge in the Caribbean state of Quintana Roo issued a warrant regarding claims that he raped a 17-year-old last month after a performance.

According to his lawyer, Eliezer Garcia, he was in Texas on a business trip when the warrant was issued, and was immediately deported back to the city of Chetumal, so he could be detained until the trial begins.

However, state deputy public safety secretary Didier Vazquez, confirmed that the singer would be held in a seperate cell for his safety, and also would be given a routine pyschological exam:

He explained:

"The important thing is that everyone who enters is a prisoner and will have the same rights and the same obligations as any other person who is imprisoned."

Yuck.

We sincerely hope that this trial can definitively prove what exactly happened that night in that hotel room, and the guilty party will be punished accordingly.

What do U think happened that night??

Mexican Pop Singer Kalimba Accused Of Rape

Oh dear.

Mexican pop singer Kalimba will face trial for allegedly raping two underage girls.

Both of the victims were hired as hostesses during Kalimba's DJ performance at the Buddha Bar in Chetumal, Mexico on December 18.

The two girls, 17, claim that they were invited to the after party by the bar's manager. One of the girls, who wishes to remain nameless, alleges that she was sexually abused by Kalimba after she fell asleep around 3 AM in the singer's hotel room.

She filed a complaint at a local public ministry on December 20.

Meanwhile, the other 17-year-old came forth this past Tuesday claiming she was also raped by the singer in a different room, but said that fear and embarrassment prevented her from speaking out earlier.

Soon after the accusations came out, Kalimba took to his Twitter and posted this:

"You should know that I am not proud of everything I do, I make mistakes, I fall and I sin; but I definitely did not do what I am being accused of."

He later deleted the tweets. He is scheduled to appear in court in Mexico City.

Thoughts?
