Kevin Smith Is Bringing Red State To Europe!

Wow! He's pretty serious about doing his own thing with this one - and we really respect him for it!

After controversially buying the rights to distribute his new film, Red State, himself, Kevin Smith is now planning to push the sale of the director's foray into the horror genre onto foreign buyers!

He reportedly introduced a private screening to the European Film Market Thursday, and announced plans to expand upon what he's doing in the US - taking the movie around the country to select cities with Q&A appearances before its nationwide October 19th release - in countries worldwide!

He explained to potential buyers:

“(If) you guys pick it up, I will work with you. I can come over, we set up five or six key places, boom, sell those houses out, start people talking. Just fly me over. But case in point, I might not be allowed to fly on the plane sometimes, so you might have to boat me over. In the beginning, I was all heart and passion. These are made by someone who says I will kill or die to get a movie made. And after 10 years, I got pretty complacent and just made movies like other people would make. I used to make shit that nobody could make but me. I figure if I’m going out, I want to go out really fuckin’ strong. What you’re going to see is all passion and heart. Everything I put into this I put into the early flicks. I came back with a vengeance and put this together.”

Wow! Like we said earlier, this is a pretty ballsy move on his part!

But it seems as though he's really passionate about the project, so we hope his plan works out for him! And we imagine it will, if he's right about the quality of the movie!

We'd love to see Kevin Smith back to form with this one! It sounds as though it has a lot of potential!

Best of luck!

Kevin Smith's COMPLETE Sundance Rant

By now, you all know all about Kevin Smith's stunt at Sundance this past weekend. You know he bought his own film, Red State, for $20, even though he told people he was going to hold an "auction" for the rights to it.

But now, you can see the whole mess go down yourself! Someone who was in the audience had the foresight to tape Kevin's rather interesting rant.

Check out the video (above) to hear Kevin explain, in his own words, what buying this film for himself actually means.

We won't lie, it's loooooooong. Still, its worth the view to see how Kevin is trying to challenge the industry into a new wave of making and selling movies.

Kevin Smith Protests The Protesters At Sundance

Ha! Only Kevin Smith!

At the premiere of his new indie flick, Red State, director Kevin Smith was greeted by a group of pissed off protesters who didn't like the way Kevin portrayed some fanatical Christians in his movie.

So what did Kevin do? He joined them, of course!

Check out the video (above) and watch as Kevin comes fully prepared to protest the protesters!

Everything remained peaceful, thankfully. Don't really know if either sides point got across, but at least they spoke their minds!

Kevin Smith's Not A Fan, Bruce Willis

kevin-smith-versus-bruce-willis.jpg

You might not know this, but Kevin Smith worked alongside Bruce Willis in that awful movie, Cop Out.

We kid, we kid. We can't comment on the movie since we've never seen it. (Then again, no one else did either! Right Ricky G?!)

Anyway, so this movie has been out and in the bargain bin for awhile, but while being interviewed for a podcast at Sundance yesterday, Kevin Smith was asked what it was like to work with Bruce on the movie.

Kevin didn't hold back. He explained:

"It was difficult. I’ve never been involved in a situation like that where one component is not in the box at all. It was f*****g soul crushing. I mean, a lot of people are gonna be like, ‘Oh, you’re just trying to blame the movie on him. I had no f*****g help from this dude whatsoever."

Ouch! Maybe he thought since he was the biggest name in the flick he had the right to act all divash.

He was wrong to do so, but maybe that's what happened.

Bruce, care to comment?

P.S. - You know who Kevin said was a total professional though? Tracy Morgan! How about that!

Kevin Smith Buys His Own Movie For $20 At Sundance

kevin-smith-buys-his-own-film.jpg

He's trying to make a point, people! Pay attention!

Last night, director Kevin Smith confused the lot who came to see his new horror flick, Red State, at Sundance when he announced he already bought the rights to the film himself and wouldn't be accepting any other offers.

For weeks, Kevin has been telling sources that he would be holding a post-screening auction for the rights to Red, but in the end, he ended keeping the goods all for himself. He told the crowd he paid himself $20 for the flick and he's planning on a Oct. 19th release. So, what's with the stunt? Kevin explained to the audience:

"What we need to prove is that anyone can release a movie. Indie film isn't dead, it just grew up. It is just indie film 2.0 now. In indie film 2.0, we don’t let them sell our movie, we sell our movie ourselves.”

Alrighty then. We sure hope you know what you are doing. If this makes money, they'll call you a visionary. If it doesn't, well, let's just say we hope you hang onto that $20!

Kevin Smith Refuses To Do Press For Red State

kevin smith wont talk to press about new movie

Looks like the sting is still there from his last movie.

After critics bashed Kevin Smith's action-comedy Cop Out, the director seems to have taken a serious aversion to the press, and he's refusing to do interviews to talk about his upcoming horror movie Red State.

Here's what he had to say about his decision on his Twitter page:

"I'm not press-junketing at all, anywhere. In fact, I'm not doing any press outside of maybe a business piece or 2 to help sell the flick if needed, & radio (LOTS of radio)."

In lieu of interviews, Smith will provide the world will all the deets on his upcoming movie via podcast.

More from Kevin about the podcast:

"It's INSANELY detailed, and by the time we're done, I'll have pre-answered all questions about RedState — thus negating the need to speak with me about it.

From nearly 20 yrs experience, I know this much: folks are gonna write WHATEVER they want, whether I sit down with them or not. So I'll just furnish all the information I'd normally serve up one at a time to a small, jaded audience that doesn't really give a s–t unless there's someone famous in the room, to a much larger, APPRECIATIVE audience that would actually enjoy & benefit from hearing the same information."

Inneresting concept, Kevin. Guess we'll see how it plays out.

Will U listen to Kevin Smith's Red State podcast?

Kevin Smith Tweets About Clerks 3 And Other Potential Sequels

kevin smith talks potential sequels via twitter

Yesterday, we reported on a new deal by The Weinstein Company and Miramax where they'll be sequelizing a bunch of their hit/classic films.

Given his track record with both companies, it's no surprise that Kevin Smith chose to share his thoughts on the possibility of Clerks III and other Jay and Silent Bob sequels.

Here's what he had to say about it on his Twitter:

"…I sold the movie [Clerks] to them in 1994. But I guess if someone was going to exploit the library for sequels, remakes, tv, I'd rather it be the devil I know. Nice to know there's a home for Clerks III if I ever wanted to make it, but hope it doesn't become a home for a Clerks-anything if I'm not involved."

More from Kevin:

"Either way, I doubt my shit is even something they wanna re-do/remake. They own Clerks, Chasing Amy, Jersey Girl and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. But then it's further complicated by the Jay & Silent Bob of it all. They don't own Jay & Silent Bob; I do. They own Strike Back, but they can't make any flick that'd include Jay & Silent Bob (even a Strike Back sequel) without my permission/license.

The only flick they own free & clear of me with no ties whatsoever, is Jersey Girl. And from personal experience, there's little to no interest in a sequel or remake, unless it opens with JLo's dead Mom busting out of her earthen grave, trampling her only begotten daughter's copy of a Necronomicon as she eats her brains. If they wanna do THAT Jersey Girl sequel, I'm totally in. But honestly, all those flicks are theirs to do with as they will. I can't (and won't) complain. At least the Guardians of Ga'Harvey are still in place, looking out for the dopey little (f)art flicks I made so long ago."

LOLs! This is HIGHlarious, Kevin!

We'd LOVE to see THAT Jersey Girl sequel! Sounds amazing!

Would U like to see Kevin Smith's movies get the sequel treatment?

…Snooch to the nooch.
