According to an investor's webcast that took place on Monday afternoon, SeaWorld is phasing out their orca shows at their San Diego location after guests responded strongly over the past several years.

An unnamed park representative, speaking on the webcast for investors, said of the decision to cut back on the park's killer whale shows:
"The main point is we are listening to our guests. We are evolving as a company, we are always changing."
While the park can say they are listening to their guests, this news may actually be in direct response to recent changes of the law in California.

Apparently Killer Whales share a rare evolutionary trait with us humans:
That's right, killer whales goes through menopause.
Experts say that this trait improves an offspring's chance of survival.
Orcas are one of the rare species that continues to live long after they're done reproducing.
That means that their baby has a great chance of surviving because he's got his mama's help!
The lead investigator of the study into why these whales have menopause said:

A new documentary called Blackfish had the interest of several buyers at Sundance.
The film is about Tilikum, the killer whale who is responsible for the deaths of three people.
We previously mentioned that a highly skilled trainer was killed at SeaWorld when Tilikum dragged her underwater and wouldn't let her go.
Now, this documentary seeks to expose the cruelty that these creatures suffer at SeaWorld and how their living conditions can drive them to madness!
The doc is apparently so good that both Magnolia Pictures and CNN Films bought the rights to the film together.
Magnolia is going to release it July 19th while CNN is going to air it sometime this fall.
Check out the video (above) to see the trailer for Blackfish!
