Booie was a chimpanzee living at a Los Angeles animal sanctuary.
He used to have a pretty bad smoking habit too.
He was a chimp that was retired from a research lab and once in the sanctuary was made to quit cigarettes.
Though he did still have one vice: a love of candy!
And he was so intelligent he used to use sign language to try and get people to give him a treat, signing:
"Booie see sweet in pocket."
Cute!!
But now Booie is gone, and the fate of the sanctuary is up in the air now that they've lost their biggest fund raiser, as well as their best friend.
So sad.

A whistleblower at Shin Nippon Biomedical Laboratories (SNBL), an animal testing conglomerate, got in touch with PETA and brought them undercover video of the horrible cruelty and mistreatment of monkeys at the testing lab.
The monkeys live almost their entire lives in fear and pain until they are killed through the course of experiments.
Check out the above video taken from inside the lab of the poor test monkeys.
It is comforting to know that at least someone in the lab had the heart to risk their job for the suffering animals.

These dogs are 2-years-old and have never been on grass before, only knowing life inside a lab.

40 purebred Beagles were rescued from an animal testing lab.
The lab was in Spain, and Beagles were chosen simply because they are nice, making them easy to test on.
They were rescued by the Beagle Freedom Project.
Check out the above video to learn more about those rescued doggies.

Chimps' similarity to humans makes the invaluable for scientific research.
Chimp research helped to produce a vaccine for hepatitis B and another is headed for hepatitis C.
But it's still controversial because of the uncertain condition in which the chimps are kept and the tests performed on them.
There are literally only two places in the world where chimp testing is still legal. Gabon in central Africa… and the US.

OMG… when that one hugs the other one?! So sweet!
These chimps are smiling wide because they were born in captivity, raised in a lab and this is the first time they're seeing natural sunlight.
Never mind that the video is in German, the looks on those chimps' faces are priceless.
