Believe it or not, there was a time when fitness blogs didn’t exist and most cookbooks were filled with unhealthy recipes.
That’s where the late Jack LaLanne, who died on Sunday at age 96, came in.
Jack, who passed away from pneumonia, was an icon for both fitness and healthy eating. He was a huge proponent of raw vegetables and was able to help educate millions on the benefits of regular exercise.
Said his daughter, Yvonne LaLanne:
"He was surrounded by his family and passed very peacefully and in no distress … and with the football game on Sunday, so everything was normal."
LaLanne is considered the father of modern fitness, and he will be missed, not only for his contribution to the world of fitness, but for his ability to motivate a nation to get moving.
"I can't die," LaLanne once said. "It would ruin my image."
