Fashion's Night Out Events For Plus-Sized Fierceness!

Fashions Night Out 2011 Plus Sized Virginia Los Angeles Chicago New York City

Fashion is such a fun and wonderful art, but it shouldn't be limited to skinny bitches!

Plus-sized women are fierce too, and think goodness it's recognized in the catwalk-world's newest holiday.

There will be plus-sized events in at least four cities, so listen up, divas! You may be in the right place.

1. If you're living the Sex and the City life in New York City, get ready for some Lane Bryant fun!

To kick off the Fall Fashion Week, LB will host an event Thursday, September 8 at their Fulton Street Store in Brooklyn. There they'll debut the new Tighter Tummy Technology (T3) pants. Not only that, but the stars from TLC’s Big Sexy will be present to promote a $500 gift card contest and a chance to be in a LB photoshoot. Did we mention free cocktails?

2. Now, if you live about 800 miles west of NYC, you're in luck too!

Chicago has CUPCAKES, CURVES, AND CLEAVAGE!!! This exclusive event will be hosted by Vive La Femme, Isabella Fine Lingerie, and Vaudezilla. Plus-sized women in the windy city are invited to shop through brand new Fall fashions, sign up for Bodacious Burlesque classes. All Chi-Towners will receive 20% off their Vive La Femme purchases. We're also assuming there will be lots of cupcakes — hopefully with buttercream frosting! Yummm.

3. Also, down in the Commonwealth, plus-sized Southern Belles can revel in fashion at Virginia's BeautyFull Boutique!

Alexandria will have a night of designers, vendors, and boutiques catering to fuller figures.

With fashion showcases from Ear Candy Accessories to PopUp Plus, plus lots of vintage/retro selections, this gem of an event is sure to please the Virginians! It will take place on N. Fayette St and of course there will be tons of drink and prizes!

4. As for our fellow LA fashionistas, we're pretty sure Lane Bryant also has something special planned up her sleeve for the West Coast FNO festivities at the Beverly Center.

So see! Fashion doesn't have to be simultaneous with size zeros!

We're all beautiful and we're all REAL, regardless of being a size 0 or a size 16!

Britain's Next Top Model Judge Hates On Plus-Size Models

wenn52896004.jpg

Tyra Banks and Lane Bryant will not be happy about this!

Welsh designer and fur-lover Julien Macdonald is the current co-judge of Britain's Next Top Model.

And according to the designer, plus-size girls were not allowed on the show. Says Julien:

"There were no plus-size models. This is a serious show. You can't have a plus-size girl winning - it makes it a joke.

It's not fair on them — you're setting them up for a fall. I know what would happen to them. They are looked down on."

Looks like this idiot would be good friends with Australia's Next Top Model judge Charlotte Dawson who also hates on the curvy ladies.

Oh, and Star by Julien Macdonald currently offers dresses in UK sizes 18/20 (US sizes 16/18). Hopefully the plus-size ladies will stop buying his plus-size clothing!

What do U think about Julien's comments?

Charming Shoppes Drop Some Excess Baggage

ap01071002222_e.jpg

And it's in the form of 100 to 120 retail shops!

Charming Shopppes, who owns plus-size retailers like Lane Bryant, Fashion Bug and Catherines will be shutting down over 100 shops this year. This is on top of the 160 stores that were closed in 2009!

Yikes!

So why the mass exodus?

CEO Jim Fogarty explains:

"Our first-quarter 2010 to-date same-store sales comp through eight weeks was approximately (4) percent, which, while still negative, reflects improvement across all of our brands from our fourth-quarter comps and progress in ourSpring assortments."

But it's not all bad.

Forgarty said that their online sales are up. He adds:

"Our Internet business was up 35 percent in that same time period, benefiting from the August launch of our new Web sites and the February launch of our universal shopping cart linking our four apparel Web sites."

Hopefully all the store closings will generate more online sales for them and not put them out of business completely!
