Although he won't be reigning supreme behind it just yet, David Letterman had him on as a guest for the first time he was announced as successor, and the two dished about him taking over his position (above).

The Late Show heir apparent also talked about how love (and lack of paycheck) got in the way of him becoming an intern there.

Stephen Colbert seemed extremely honored over the news that he would replace David Letterman on The Late Show, even if it was through the smirks and smiles that managed to get past his character!

Last night on The Colbert Report, Stephen paid fitting tribute to Dave's legacy, and addressed what a daunting task it would for "whoever they try to put in that chair."

Ellen DeGeneres Parodies….Uh, We Mean Delivers A Monologue In The Style Of The Late Show!

Although we now know that Stephen Colbert will be replacing David Letterman, up until today Ellen DeGeneres had been coming up on various lists of possible replacements for Dave, and as a result, Ellen took to her day show to dispel those rumors!

While she said she's happy to be on day time (and it's now confirmed she won't be taking over Dave's desk), she did give her audience a brief, tongue-in-cheek taste of what it would be like to have her host The Late Show by delivering a monologue in the style of a late night show.

Our favorite gag? Ellen, after having an issue getting out of the curtain, admits that she hasn't "had that much trouble coming out since 1997." BA-DUM-CHA!

Ch-ch-check out her whole monologue (above)!!!
