Stand Up To Cancer With Spider-Man!

Spiderman tees

Stand Up To Cancer is going with a Spidey-city theme this year, New York City to be exact.

Andrew Garfield, who stars in The Amazing Spider-Man and is an ambassador for Stand Up To Cancer, explained why they went with the comic book hero for their 2012 fundraising shirts:

"One of the great things about Peter Parker (Spider-Man) is he’s a regular guy from Queens who is transformed into a hero. These shirts underscore the idea that anyone has the power to be a hero. Cancer is one of our greatest villains. I’m proud to join others in standing up to this disease."

The shirts also carry an extra special meaning for Andrew and his co-star slash girlfriend Emma Stone after the Spider-Man producer Laura Ziskin lost her battle with cancer while filming the flick in 2011.

Very sad.

Spider-Man/Pretty Woman producer Laura Ziskin has lost the battle to breast cancer at 61-years-old.

Aside from an extremely impressive film career, Ziskin was also one of the founders of the Stand Up to Cancer research movement, which is an initiative "intended to enable cutting-edge research targeting all types of cancer led by 'dream teams' of doctors."

Here's what Laura's Stand Up to Cancer co-founder Katie Couric had to say about her:

"Laura was one of the most courageous people I’ve ever known. Her fearlessness in the face of this relentless killer inspires everyone on the SU2C team to redouble our efforts to make cancer history."

Aside from her film producing career and her work with Stand up to Cancer, Ziskin was also the first woman to produce the Academy Awards ceremony on her own in 2002, and she produced the first-ever "green" ceremony in 2007.

Such an impressive, inspirational woman! She will be missed.

Our thoughts go out to her family, friends, and peers during this difficult time.

George Clooney Takes On Enron!

george-clooney-to-adapt-british-play-enron-for-american-audiences

Uh-oh! Drama!

George Clooney is reportedly ready to take the directorial reigns once again and adapt the smash British play Enron into a feature film, but the original team behind the stage version, including director Rupert Goold, are allegedly unhappy that they will not be involved!

According to sources, the only person involved from the original group is playwright Lucy Prebble, who has been tapped to adapt the work to the big screen, leaving many infuriated!

Philip Hedley, former director of the Theatre Royal Stratford East, says:

"It's a great shame that the original talent hasn't been able to follow through, to put on to film what they've originally created. Everything works on celebrity and famous names."

However, producer Laura Ziskin, has retaliated:

"Once you've done something… you've done it. Let that stand on its own."

She also went on to explain that "this is an American story," and the film will have its own take on the material while staying true to the original.

Inneresting! We're kind of on the fence about this!

We trust Clooney's judgment, and think that the choice to re-work it from the American standpoint is a valid one, but of course, there's always the mentality that if it's not broken, why try and fix it?

What do U think?? Should Enron be adapted, or left as is??
