Kylie Jenner's controversial wheelchair photo from her Interview shoot has been given a new perspective.
One of the complaints from disability activists was that Kylie's shoot was taking away from disabled models who rarely get the type of opportunities and work that their able-bodied colleagues get.

In response, photographer Jennifer Rovero teamed up with amputee model Lauren Wasser, who lost her right leg to toxic shock syndrome, to recreate the image.

It takes a brave person to even talk about this.
Lauren Wasser, the model who had her right leg amputated below the knee after suffering from toxic shock syndrome, admits that she was suicidal following her ordeal.

Even years after the initial hospitalization, the 27-year-old struggled to cope with her new reality:
"I was in a really dark place and I didn't think that I could go on. Honestly, I just accepted that this is my life maybe a month or two ago."
As a model used to being praised for her looks, Lauren also admits the loss of her leg was a terrible blow:
"I was so ashamed of my leg. I was so embarrassed and I didn't know how people were going to react because the old Lauren didn't have these flaws."
Despite struggling with her self-worth, the model found strength in her 14-year-old brother, and in wanting to show him that she could rise above:

In a recent article, the gorgeous model and former athlete spoke out on her terrifying experience with toxic shock syndrome. For those who don't know, toxic shock syndrome is a rare yet life threatening bacterial infection that can be caused by the synthetic materials found in tampons.
At age 24, Wasser was at the top of her game — she modeled, was a familiar face of El Lay's coveted social scene, and she led a very active lifestyle. In high school, Lauren was even offered a full scholarship to play basketball at a Division 1 school. In short, life was good.
Unfortunately, LW's fortune changed for the worse after she purchased Kotex Natural Balance tampons for her period. Tampon use, like it is for most women, was an after thought for Lauren. The blonde didn't even think about why she felt "off" until she woke up in a hospital days later and near death.
