Arizona Governor Vetoes Anti-Gay Bill! Hooray!

arizona governor jan brewer vetoes anti gay bill senate bill 1062

Finally! Some good news out of Arizona!!

The state's Republican lawmakers recently pissed off, well, everyone when they passed Senate Bill 1062, a measure which sought to legally condone many types of discrimination under the guise of protecting religious freedom.

Thankfully, mercifully, Governor Jan Brewer has come to her senses — just moments ago she VETOED that horrible, hateful bill instead of signing it into law!

Did Arizona's Republican governor veto it because the angels on her shoulder begged her to do the right thing? Or did she succumb to the pressure of all the pundits, politicians, and private companies who were calling her state out for passing such a preposterously mean-spirited bill in the first place?

We don't know, but she did tweet this:

Senator Behind Anti-SWATTING Bill Is SWATTED Himself!

Filed under: Icky Icky PooLegal MattersPolitik

ted lieu swatted

Oh man.

The individuals behind the increasingly frequent - and increasingly frustrating - SWATTING pranks that have sent authorities rushing to the homes of various celebrities under false pretenses are now SERIOUSLY playing with fire!

Apparently, in response to California senator Ted Lieu's proposal for an "Anti-SWATTING" bill that would shut the individuals in question down by forcing them to pay the $10,000 price for police resources used in every prank, they chose to make his Torrance, California home the site of their next attack!

According to reports, law enforcement

Illinois Senate Passes Same Sex Marriage Bill!

crowd in support of gay marriage

We're guessing some couples in Illinois are going to have to turn those candlelight dinner plans into engagement parties tonight!

Just in time for Valentine's Day, the Illinois Senate just passed a bill to legalize same-sex marriage!

The bill passed 34-21 in the Senate and now must move to the House to be made fully legal.

This will make Illinois the tenth state to make gay marriage legal, but three more states are just behind.

Rhode Island, Delaware, and Hawaii have each introduced their own marriage equality acts into their legislatures.

Looks like 13 is going to be the lucky number for someone very soon!

Yay Land Of Lincoln!

Ann Coulter, A Month After Sandy Hook Elementary School Massacre: Gun Crime In America Is Not A Problem For "White Populations"

Honestly, we can't even tell you what's more hurtful and sickening here:

That this woman honestly, truly believes all of the hateful, racist nonsense that she shamefully spouts out or that there are people all over this country who support those beliefs.

Although we hate to add to Ann Coulter's already delusional, engorged ego by allowing ourselves to get worked up over her latest hate-spewed tirade against common sense and logic, the right-wing political commentator has truly outdone herself this time while appearing on last night's Hannity to give her latest opinion on the current gun violence debate in the United States.

Make sure you haven't just eaten, because you'll most definitely lose your lunch when you watch (above)!

Yeah.

All we have to say here is that even if that what-sounds-to-be-a-BS statistic about the rates of gun violence in "white communities" compared to "other demographics" is even true in some deliberately limited fashion, how DARE she blatantly ignore the social constructs and institutionalized racism that bleed through our country's politics, legislation, and economy that keep individuals living in poverty, stuck with life-long stigmas preventing them from access to real opportunity, and desperate to do what they have to just to live with a FRACTION of the comfort her lifestyle allows.

Of course, that's also ignoring the fact

He's more than keeping his word!

He is NOT messing around! Nor should he be!

In the wake of a 20-year-old gunman's massacre of 27 people, 20 of them children, at Sandy Hook elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut Friday afternoon, President Barack Obama promised the devastated community that "if there is even one thing that we can do" to prevent something like this happening again that "we have a deep obligation, all of us, to try."

And he as ALREADY started doing just that, by announcing today that Vice President Joe Biden will be spearheading a multi-agency group to tackle the problem of widespread gun violence in the country…with proposals ready to be pushed into legislation by JANUARY!

As the President explained:

Ukraine's Horrifying 'Gay Gag Rule' Has Been Defeated…For Now

Ukraine gay gag rule defeated

It's absolutely terrifying that this legislation was even being CONSIDERED, but thankfully, the people of Ukraine and other European countries have stood up to defeat it.

The Ukrainian parliament was scheduled to vote on a new law on Friday which would make it illegal to "spread homosexuality" by "holding meetings, parades, actions, demonstrations and mass events aiming at intentional distribution of any positive information about homosexuality." Ukrainian citizens who broke the proposed law would be facing up to five years in prison for freely expressing any positive opinion about homosexuality through ANY medium.

Scary, right?

Although this exposed the frightening homophobia that is still felt around the globe, it gives us hope to hear that other foreign governments actively denounced the law, while thousands of people signed a petition against it.

On top of Ireland, Argentina, and the European Parliament speaking out against the oppressive law, AllOut.org delivered 120,000 signatures to Ukrainian authorities at the European Union and Council of Europe. Andre Banks, co-founder of the human rights organization, commented on the results of everyone's hard work by saying:
