Virginia Lawmakers Protest Pride Flag Outside Of Federal Reserve Bank!

Ugh! We're sorry, but what the EFF is wrong with people?!

Virginia delegates Robert Marshall and Riley E. Ingram have reportedly written letters of protest to Jeffrey Lacker, the president of the Richmond Federal Reserve Bank, because they're unhappy that they've put up a rainbow flag in honor of Gay Pride Month, and want it removed!

The bank originally chose put up the flag per the request of its LGBT group, Prism, and to reflect their commitment to diversity!

However, Marshall, Ingram, and the conservative members of the Virginia General Assembly, have struck back, and assert that homosexuality “adds significantly to illness, increases health costs, promotes venereal diseases, and worsens the population imbalance relating to the number of workers supporting the beneficiaries of America’s Social Security and Medicare programs.”

Marshall's letter continues:

“I do not believe that a celebration of ‘gay pride’ has anything to do with the mission of the Federal Reserve under the Federal Reserve Act passed by Congress. This is a celebration of a behavior that is still a class six felony in Virginia. How can the American people trust the judgement of the Federal Reserve as an institution when its spokesperson celebrates an attack on public morals?”

Unbelievable.

We think a better question might be, "How did such an ignorant man find his way into a position where he has a platform to spew that kind of hatred and nonsense?"

Absolutely deplorable! And so sad, especially in this day and age!

We commend the Federal Reserve Bank for their commitment to LGBT rights, and sincerely hope that they will not let this disgusting behavior affect or change their view on the matter!

EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL!

And to all of the aforementioned members of the Virginia General Assembly, as well as anyone else promoting hatred and intolerance…HAPPY PRIDE MONTH, bitches! We're not going ANYWHERE! Xoxo!

Obama Issues A Proclamation For LGBT Pride Month, Doesn't Mention Marriage Equality

barack obama makes proclamation for lgbt pride month

It's a start…but we need more!

Yesterday, President Barack Obama issued a proclamation for LGBT Pride Month, which tackled a bunch of important issues in the LGBT community, BUT he didn't mention marriage equality OR the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).

In his defense, he made reference to crucial issues including "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT), workplace discrimination, and hate crimes, but we're disappointed that marriage equality didn't make its way into this proclamation.

Check out Obama's full proclamation AFTER THE JUMP and let us know what U think!

YES!

The White House is hosting an event tonight to celebrate LBGT Pride Month and President Obama will be speaking at the event.

Additionally, yesterday Attorney General Eric Holder was praised by a crowd of gay and lesbian employees at the Department of Justice after he promised to use the new laws to protect their presence in the workplace. He said:

"The Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Hate Crimes Prevention Act, which the president signed into law last October, finally protects our nation's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered individuals from the most brutal forms of bias-motivated violence."

Progress is being made — slowly but surely! Kevin Nix, Director of Communications at Family Equality council explains:

"This Administration has taken small but significant steps in advancing LGBT equality (namely hospital visitation rights). But much more is left to do when it comes to the one million LGBT families raising two million kids in this country–like repealing DOMA and passing the Every Child Deserves a Family Act, which would swing open the doors for LGBT people to adopt. We look to this White House and Congress for leadership on these key issues that directly impact families."

Yes, there is still much work to be done!

Equality for all!
