Food has more of an affect on your body than how skinny you are! Did U know that some food can actually help your libido?

With the most romantic day of the year just a day away, Margaux J. Rathbun has some nutrition information for all the lovers out there! The nutritional therapy practitioner writes:

Looking to spice things up this Valentine’s Day? In addition to living a healthy, balanced life, there are certain foods that have been known to spice things up in the bedroom!

- Oysters are one of the more well-known foods that serve as an aphrodisiac. They are full of zinc, which can help produce sperm and increase libido in both men and women.

- Honey contains a lot of B vitamins and minerals that aid in getting people aroused.

- Try cooking with basil; it's been said to increase fertility. Make homemade pesto spreads with garlic, another aphrodisiac, and add it to pasta or use it on chicken dishes.

- Get things pumping' with ginger. This well-known spice gets the circulatory system flowing. Its spicy flavor is great in salads or even cooked with fish. Ginger also helps with digestion. We all know how un-sexy it is to feel bloated and full.

- Sugar, spice and everything nice? Not when you're cooking with nutmeg! A sprinkle of nutmeg on your dinner, dessert or even your date is sure to raise their body temperature and heat up the evening. Add it to a hot cup of cocoa or coffee for an after-dinner treat and watch the clothes melt off.

- Given the shape, it's not shocking to learn that bananas are said to stimulate the sex drive in men. Besides being loaded with potassium, magnesium and B vitamins, they also contain components that help arouse the boys. Go bananas, ladies!

- Want to put your man in the mood? Serve him wild yams or pumpkin seeds, two foods that have been said to help with get men going.

- Want to attract the ladies? It's been said that the scent of almonds arouses women. Gentlemen, maybe it's time to invest in a nice big bottle of almond oil?

Lack Of Sleep May Lower Men's Sex Drive

sleeping man sleeping

If you're pushing your waking life and brushing off the dream world, you could be inadvertently lowering your sex drive.

A new study published in The Journal of American Medical Association has found a lack of sleep may have a direct impact on the amount of testosterone pumping through a man's body.

Men's testosterone levels naturally decline by roughly 1% to 2% a year with age, but researchers found a lack of sleep could cause a 10% to 15% DECREASE!

In the small study, 10 men with an average age of 24 were monitored while sleeping 10 hours for 3 nights, then only 5 hours for another eight.

The significantly decreased testosterone levels were discovered on the last day of the 5-hour sleeping phase, during which their blood was sampled every 15-30 minutes.

Though small in scope, similar studies have found similar results. In 2007, a study on 12 older men between the ages of 64 and 74 discovered “measured amount of nighttime sleep in healthy older men was found to be a significant and independent predictor of their morning total and free testosterone levels.”

Testosterone won't just affect your sex life either! Research shows those levels play an important role in a man's overall health, including building strength, muscle mass and bone density.

Sleep tight, fellas!

7 Ways To Increase Your Libido

Valentine’s Day is now long gone and the romance in your relationship may be fading again.

If you’re finding that your libido isn’t what you want it to be, try one or more of the things off of this list, compiled by Care2, all known to have libido-enhancing effects!

1. Spicy Foods
Spicy foods get your blood flowing and naturally turn up the heat in your body (which also fires up your metabolism).

2. Yoga
Yoga is more than a flexibility-making om session. According to Beverly Whipple, PhD., certified sex researcher and Professor Emerita at Rutgers University of New Jersey, certain yogic positions, like the Eagle pose, directs blood flow to your pelvis, creating a warm and relaxed sensation, increasing desire and arousal.

3. Black Licorice
Huge in Finland… black licorice is the candy that just might get you in the mood to get randy! A study conducted by Alan R. Hirsch, neurological director, Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago, revealed that women who were exposed to the scent of black licorice reported a 13 percent increase in blood flow to the nether regions compared to a1 percent reduction from the scent of men’s cologne!

4. Ginger
You don’t have to travel to Japan (though if you can, why not…) to sample this stimulating root. Particularly revved up after a Sushi date? It may be the Ginger, which is a powerful circulatory system stimulant, sending blood to the sexual organs…

5. Chocolate and Walnuts
Stimulate even more of your senses with chocolate and walnuts. Chocolate instantly boosts production of phenylethylamine, a chemical that directly affects the brain’s pleasure center, increasing the intensity of orgasms! Walnuts are loaded with manganese, which can activate an increase in your body’s release of the “feel good” chemical dopamine.

6. Eat Bugs
According to ancient Chinese belief and herbalist Ron Teegarden, ants and male silk moths are effective sexual tonics. Ant, known as the “Herb of Kings,” improves sexual function and increases virility and fertility while easing anxiety and stress (which is often to blame for low sex drive). To up your guy’s ante, slip him a few squirts of male silk moth. Rich in protein and male hormones, male silk moth accelerates the growth of sperm.

7. Workout
Libido is both about a chemical and emotional high. More than mentally being in the mood, if you want to have better sex, you’ve got to get the blood flowing! How? Specific stretches, cardio, strength, and a lower back massage helps too. The great new is, you can do this libido lifter without leaving your house, or anywhere else in the world.
