Morgan Freeman Honored By AFI, Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

morgan freeman honored by afi

He's played the President. He's played God. He deserves some recognition.

Yesterday, Morgan Freeman was honored by the American Film Institute (AFI), who presented him with their Lifetime Achievement Award.

Celebs who attended the event to celebrate Freeman's achievement include Clint Eastwood, Helen Mirren, Tim Robbins, and Forest Whitaker.

Here's what Clint Eastwood had to say about Morgan, whom he referred to as "the greatest actor":

"He is the most effortless person to be around and to act. I don't know if it's proper to love another man, but this is as close as I'm going to get to it."

And here's what Morgan had to say when presented with his award:

"This is easy to take but hard to believe. Where I come from in Mississippi, they call this walking in high cotton. For me, heaven has always been about acting in the movies. I'm proud to be an actor, although for this one night, you've made me feel like a star."

He may not be a role model when it comes to his personal life, but there's no denying the fact that Morgan's a talented actor and was def worthy of receiving AFI's prestigious award.

What do U think? Did Morgan Freeman deserve AFI's Lifetime Achievement award?

sophia loren gets honored

What a lovely gesture!

Yesterday, legendary actress Sophia Loren was honored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Hollywood with a tribute ceremony, after having also received a lifetime achievement Oscar back in 1991.

Here's what Sophia had to say while at the Academy's tribute ceremony for the actress:

"The Academy Award changed my life completely. It helped me to believe in myself and encouraged me to push my own artistic boundaries."

"There are no words to describe my emotions right now. It is hard to imagine that 50 years have passed since I welcomed my Oscar to my home."

Speeches at the ceremony were given by Tom Hanks, Sophia's Nine director Rob Marshall, and her son Edoardo Ponti who said the following about his mother:

"We are here because we love you and you deserve every single thing."

So sweet. She's accomplished SO MUCH and looks A-MAZING at 76 years old!!!

Congratulations, Sophia! We're very happy for you!

So, What Was Up With Robert DeNiro's Awkward Speech At The Globes??? He Speaks!

Eh, give the guy a break! They can't all be good, you know.

Last night, Robert De Niro received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his long line of amazing work, Unfortunately, his acceptance speech was just as memorable as his classic flicks, but not in a good way.

Rob tried his hand a little, shall we say, schtick while accepting his award, but ended up making some rather controversial remarks that didn't go over so well. (We personally didn't appreciate the jab at the waiters and Javier Bardem.)

When he headed back to the press room, he was immediately asked why he tried to be "funny." He replied:

“I thought this would be more fun for this kind of evening.”

Thought wrong, bb.

Still, nothing he said compares to what Ricky Gervais said. Bet he's in WAY more trouble than Rob right now.

dame-julie-andrews-to-receive-lifetime-achievement-grammy.jpg

Well deserved!

Dame Julie Andrews will receive the lifetime achievement award at this year's Grammy Awards.

She previously won a Grammy in 1964 for best recording for children for her role in Mary Poppins.

So sweet!

Dolly Parton and The Ramones will also be honored at the ceremony.

President of The Recording Academy, Neil Portnow, says:

"These influential performers and brilliant innovators have been of great inspiration to our culture and industry. Their legendary work has left a lasting impression and will continue to influence generations to come"

With a career spanning over 60 years, we couldn't think of a better recipient of the awards. Congratulations to Miz Andrews!

On Monday night, Glamour honored Cher with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the mag's Women of the Year soiree held at NYC's Carnegie Hall.

The singing legend kept it relatively simple at the event in a black dress and leather jacket with the word "ROCK" embroidered onto the lapel.

We would have loved to see her in something over the top, but it's Cher! She can wear whatever the eff she wants.
