Sales of tobacco to minors in the United States reached an all time low in 2011.
The drop in sales was most likely reached due to a federal and state inspection intended to halt underage tobacco use.
The plummet of sales is way down from 1997 when sale to minors was at 40 percent to 2011 which was at 8.5 percent allowing parents to rest easy their children aren't slowly killing themselves.
The surgeon general says that 80% of smokers begin by age 18 and 99% of smokers begin by the age of 26.
Here's what one expert said:
“We know that if we can stop kids from smoking before they turn 18, the chance that they will become smokers as adults is actually very low. By reducing retail access, we’re reducing one of the ways that kids can get introduced to tobacco and become smokers. Reducing retail access is an important part of a comprehensive tobacco control program, but it’s only one piece.”
This battle has won, but the war isn't over.
However, the outlook has brightened considerably for future generations to live a healthy and smoke free life!

Less and less young adults are having babies these days because of the poor economy.
In fact birthrates in the US have dropped to its lowest in 25 years.
The average fertility rate of 2.1 that the US usually maintains won't rebound for at least two more years.
Why has this happened?
Here's what one researcher said:
"There's a sense of hesitancy, of 'What does better look like? How will we know?' — especially for those of prime child-bearing age. … The key word would be uncertainty, a lot of uncertainty. "
For years the U.S. has been the envy of other developed countries for its fertility birth rate. Those countries are worried that it won't have enough young people to support the aging population.
Here's what another researcher said:
"We have to think through our policies. We've got to provide better support systems for working mothers as well as fathers."
We're down. So everybody start thinking of some policies right…NOW!!!
